Progressive Rock BR
RECOMMENDS
TWO PLACES AT ONCE
"Birdtraps"

Two Places at Once is a band formed in 2013 in Rio de Janeiro, by Victor Barbosa (drummer), Renan Rocha (Vocal and Guitar) and Juan Salinas (bass), with an intention to mix different musical genres, like Alternative Rock, Progressive Rock, Metal, and other genres. The influences range from Pink Floyd and Oasis to Black Sabbath and Deftones. The compositions and the lyrics may be more delicate and touching, but it doesn't mean that they cannot do something more agressive and heavy. In the begining of 2014, the band started to record their first EP called "Different Selves", that was released in March 2014, and has a production by Elton Bozza. Now they are back with a full album. Enjoy Two Places At Once.
7 OCEAN
"Son of Sun"

The year of the founding of the Seventh Ocean band (7 Ocean) can be considered the 1989, when they recorded their debut tape album "One Life". The album tells the story of a man who has the elixir of eternity and, therefore, lives a long life. This man survives in the heaviest situations. They come from Belarussian, Formation 7 Ocean is connected with Alexander Eletsky's creativity - the keyboardist of band and the author practically all musical material and all texts. It is necessary to tell, that the original line up of band was formed not at once. Many Gomel musicians took part in band during the period 1988-89??.: Alexander Ikonnikov, Vladimir Stoljarov, Vladimir Repevsky, Oleg Grinevich, Alexander Mashukov. But, finally, the "One life" album has been written down as a part of Alexander Eletsky (keys, vocals), Gennady Kalaurkin guitars, vocals), Igor Mihasev (drums, vocals) and Vitaly Gaponenko (bass, vocals).
HOSTSONATEN
"Symphony N.1 - Cupid & Psyche"

Höstsonaten is a name that should today be familiar to any prog-maniac, a creature with an ever-changing line-up, according to the needs of its founder Fabio Zuffanti who, for this "Symphony n. 1 - Cupid & Psyche", collaborates with keyboardist Luca Scherani (La Coscienza di Zeno, La Curva di Lesmo), the primary responsible for arrangements and orchestrations. The classical/symphonic element, always present in every Höstsonaten album, here is further emphasized and elaborated, and constantly mixed with the urgency of rock music, the elegance of jazz and the timeless folk charm. The sources of inspiration are clear: Stravinsky and Tchaikovsky for the classical component, the most symphonic Genesis and our beloved New Trolls, in their "Concerto Grosso" version. Everything rests on a solid mythological and literary basis, as deduced from the work's title: the album is entirely instrumental, but each of its ten songs is associated with a chapter of the "Cupid and Psyche" novel, a famous story written by Lucius Apuleius in his "Metamorphoses", here especially revisited by writer Pee Gee Daniel.
NEMRUD
"Nemrud"

The third album from one of Turkey's most unique progressive rock bands is comprised of four interrelated stories based on mount Nemrud. The songs blend symphonic and progressive elements that refer to the Turkish sounds of the '70s, as well as contemporary prog rock. The LP cover was designed by Betul Dengili Atli, one of Turkey's leading illustrators. The LP is pressed on 180-gram vinyl and presented in a special silver foil embossed gatefold cover. An inner sleeve with liner notes is included too. Nemrud was established in the second half of 2008 in Istanbul by Mert Göçay, Harun Sönmez and Aycan Sari. By the time the band had its current formation, there had been several changes in the composition of band members. In mid 2010, Nemrud released their first conceptual Progressive Rock album "Journey of the Shaman" by Musea Records from France. Before becoming the permanent member of the Nemrud, Mert Topel was one of the guest musicians of the successful debut. The current line-up was formed with the participations of Mert Alkaya in 2010 and Levent Candas in 2015 as band members.
PROJECTION
"Realitivity"

ETERNAL WANDERERS
"The Mystery Of The Cosmic Sorrow"

The project "Eternal Wanderers" is a long story which began in 1997 when two sisters Tatyana Kanevskaya and Elena Kanevskaya from Sergiev Posad having written some songs decided to organize a rock band. Then there were periods of performing with a guitarist Vladimir Panov, when Tatyana and Elena performed whit seqencer rhythm section, and periods of leaving the stage and playing only in studio. In 2006 EW at last a true rock band, and since 2007 the members of the band haven't changed anymore, except that in 2012 the fluitist Dmitry Drogunov who created also unique voice effects left the band. Eternal Wanderers's album "The Mystery Of The Cosmic Sorrow" has been released today at the Russian progressive rock label MALS! This is a double CD, total time 90 minutes. The album is a result of the 5-years endeavor, and it incarnates the fundamental idea of EW's creative activity.
SAILOR FREE
"Spiritual Revolution part 2"

At the center of the artistic world there is energy, intended as a universal metaphor of life and creative vitality; as an instrument of social evolution and well-being; such as light, warmth, comfort, motion and strength of change; such as the illumination of the mind and the spirit; such as the inalienable right to knowledge. A Revolution of the Spirit before that of matter, an epidemic of love. Love for mankind, for the capacity to imagine and to risk, for the constant search of better possible worlds, to share knowledge and solutions. In this way one is again able to understand the difference between that which is evolution and general well-being, and that which is only well-being for a chosen few. "The story of the Spiritual Revolution Messengers and their fight to get Entropia, a device that could give free energy for the whole world leads to its conclusion. Than everything change, and suddenly you realize you are playing the lead role, you are the hero and the hero is you, as it is Entropia.
IAMTHEMORNING
"Lighthouse"

Russian progressive duo iamthemorning has released a new lyric video for the song "Chalk and Coal" from its forthcoming Kscope album Lighthouse, due to be released on April 1 (June 3 in France). Formed in 2010 in St Petersburg, Russia, iamthemorning features pianist Gleb Kolyadin and the charismatic vocals of Marjana Semkina. The band self-released its debut album in 2012 before signing to Kscope and releasing Belighted, its first record for the label in September 2014. In 2015 the duo toured Europe with labels mates, the art-progressive outfit, Gazpacho. Lighthouse is a rich and eclectic album with echoes of classical music, the Canterbury scene, northern folk, jazz and electronic sounds.
IL PARADISO DEGLI ORCHI
"Il Corponauta"

Il Paradiso degli Orchi (The Orcs' Paradise) are a young band from Brescia, active since 2010. Their style is a crossover of different influences: progressive rock, psychedelia, pop, indie, singer-songwriter atmospheres, ethnic hints, electronica. They debuted in 2011 with a self-titled album and in 2014 they began working on a particular and courageous project. Meanwhile, they managed to meet the musician and producer Fabio Zuffanti (tutelary deity of the new Italian prog scene) who, fascinated by the project, has been working closely with the musicians to help them synthesize the ideas, define the songs, choose the right sounds and capture all the best on tape. The result of this process is "Il Corponauta". The album is a concept inspired by the eponymous book by Flavio Emer, a writer suffering from muscular dystrophy since his birth who, thanks to a computer, was able to turn his disability into communication.
SISARE
"Nature's Despair"

Sisare is a Finnish progressive rock quartet from Turku veering from folk-tinged balladry to atmospheric post-metal with jazz-influenced approach to their music. Sisare tells stories from other realities, offering imaginary voyages to alternative forms of life and taking deep journeys into a human mind. The digital copy of this album is available for free. Making this album took us a great effort, and all we ask in return is that you share the link to the release.

Their forst production, "Demo I", was recorded and released the same year. Foretek left the band prior to the the recording and release of their second demo, "Demo II"; issued in 2004. This production was well receivced by various magazines and websites. Their new album is titled as "Work in Progress" in a Digipack with 16 pages booklet. Signal To Noise Ratio follow in the differents styles mixing electronic, experimental and progressive rock in their compositions.
APPLE SMELL COLOUR
"Unscrupulousness"

AppleSmellColour is a Progressive Rock band founded in Tarragona in 2012. The band is composed of Lluís Barceló (guitar), Àngel Arroyo 'Loti' (bass), Marc Claramunt (drums), Pep Espasa (guitar, saxophone and flute), Mo Espasa (keyboard) and Uri Mas (vocals and guitar). After three years of composing, we have recorded our first album: Unscrupulousness. The name of the band is inspired by some verses from the poet Gabriel Ferrater: "Without yearning, / the light is dying on us / hat was honey-colored, and that now / has the apple smell colour".
CHILDREN IN PARADISE
"Morrigan"

Children in Paradise is a french musical project born in the summer of 2007, created by Kathy Millot "Dam Kat", songwriter and performer of the band. This project is co-produced with Gwalc'hmei, co-author and guitarist. Really Difficult to "catalog" the music of Children in Paradise, due to a fusion of many styles. Between "Pink Floyd", "Dead Can Dance", "Radiohead", "Porcupine Tree", "Portishead", the influences of Children in Paradise are also the traditional Celtic music, world music, prog rock and metal ...between light and tear, rich melodies and captivating rhythms. Guitars and traditional Celtic instruments harp, uilleann pipes and low whistle mix with the mystical and soft voice of Damkat.
SOLARIS
"Martian Chronecles Live"

The Solaris was founded in Febuary, 1980 in Budapest, Hungary by university students and they loved the progressive rock music and the science fiction. The founder members of the Solaris are: Erdész Róbert - keyboards, Cziglán István - guitar, Kollár Attila - flute, Seres Attila - bass, Tóth Vilmos - drums). The band was received this name from Stanislaw Lem's science fiction writer book called Solaris. Almost all his acquisitions instrumental, doesn't contain any text. September 7, 2013, in the Palace of Arts was re-staged in the band, starting with a Lifetime Achievement concert series. The concert was unique in that first period of the Solaris oeuvre, between the years 1980-1982 was covered. Since the 20-hour concert tickets sold out months in advance in advance (after the announcement a few days), so at 16 o'clock the orchestra played. These concerts are very comfortable waiting founding drummer, Vilmos Toth also. Just weeks after the concert learned shocked bandmate's death in August.
EAST
"Symphonic"

EAST is one of the most beloved prog acts from Hungary (if not the most). While the rest of the world was into New Wave, Marillion carried the prog torch for Great Britain and points west. Guitarist János Varga, keyboardist Géza Pálvölgyi, singer Miklós Zareczky, bassist Péter Móczán and percussionist István Király decided to pick up the prog banner for Eastern Europe. In 1981, they released their debut album "Játékok." The English translation is games. Oddly, they did release an English version, but it was titled "Blue Paradise." It was a well-received debut, and is still highly regarded. However, it is the sophomore effort, 1982's "Hüség" (Faith), that seems to capture more hearts. The first two albums were more symphonic inspired, but they felt the need (or perhaps pressure) to pursue a more mainstream approach. This led to replacing lead singer Miklós Zareczky, with József Tisza on "Rések a Falon" (Cracks in the Wall). While the third album is not the darling of prog fans, it was a great commercial success. The next outing, 1984's "Az Áldozat (Szodoma)" (The Victim (Sodom)) saw them dumping vocals altogether. It is completely instrumental, and has been described as a rock ballet.
DIFFERENT LIGHT
"The Burden of Paradise"

Different Light were formed in 1994 and released two albums, "All About Yourself" in 1996 and the E.P. "A Kind of Consolation" in 1999, before relocating to The Czech Republic in late 1999. As the only member left, Trevor Tabone recruited a host of different musicians in the following years resulting in the 2009 release "Icons that Weep". More personnel changes followed and in 2012 the band released "Il Suono della Luce", which is a collection of tracks taken from the first three albums. Writing and recording began during this time which has culminated in Different Light's latest and finest album so far, "The Burden of Paradise".
ALARION
"Waves of Destruction"

Waves of Destruction is the debut album of Alarion and will be released through Freia Music. The album contains an hour of melodic, symphonic and intense music. It will be a special album, with appearances by many great guest musicians. Master by Peter van 't Riet, known from Asia, DragonForce, Epica, Pain of Salvation, Steve Hackett (Genesis), Steve Howe (Yes), Symphony X, Threshold and more. A new era begins with Alarion as a renewed entity with a newly spelled name, signed to record label Freia Music and working with booking agency JBM Events. Alarion is the solo project of Dutch guitarist Bas Willemsen.
QUORUN
"Another World"

The compositions featured in this album were written in the 2000s, before the band's first disc was made. After over ten years the world's changed, and probably we have as well. But has this become a different world? As we are standing by the highway of pop music, we can take our time and contemplate what happened, what is happening now, and we can dream about tomorrow. Another world is possible, isn't it ? This album consists of 6 songs and one instrumental track. Most of the musical material was written when the band was still forming. It was a great time of creative inspiration. lyrics were partly written in Russian, and partly in English. Five songs along with two others was recorded and released as a demo CD in 2006 as well as published on the very first band's website. The whole material was revised and recorded again almost from scratch. We made lot of translation work to prepare both Russian and English versions for almost every song.
ANUBIS SPIRE
"Between The Two Eternities"

Anubis Spire was formed in 1998 and in the decade since has released three critically acclaimed albums: Old Lions (in the world of snarling sheep), Back To Abydos and Children Of A Foreign Faith. All are available at CDBaby.com and hundreds of other online and retail stores, as well as digitally in every major digital music service in existence. Featuring a cast of special guests that includes Saqqara Record's Neil Henderson, Mike Ward of Temporary Power, Marlon Kempmann of Doctor Memory, the ever-shadowy and elusive JP Macgregor among others, Anubis Spire have fashioned an album that will need more than a few listens to sink in but once it does, if you're like me, you'll have a hard time getting it out of your head.
FREQUENCY DRIFT
"Last"

Formed in Bayreuth, Germany by classically trained keyboard player and multi- instrumentalist Andreas Hack, the band released their debut, Personal Effects Pt. 1, in 2008 via Musea. The conceptual work about the tragic story of two sisters in a futuristic setting was inspired by films like Bladerunner and Ghost in a Shell. The follow-up album, Personal Effects Pt. 2 was released by Cyclops in 2009 and once more showcased Frequency Drift's talent for powerful, soulful melodies and atmosphere. 19 February 2016 will see the release of their 6th album Last. Stranger and darker than its predecessors, yet still highly melodic, with stunning artwork and mournful lyrics, it is Frequency Drift's most cohesive and cinematic work so far.
TRETTIOÅRIGA KRIGET
"Seaside Air"

Trettioåriga Kriget (Thirty Years War) was formed in 1970 in Saltsjöbaden, a seaside resort southeast of Stockholm. They were at the time all around seventeen and still in high school. The schools mainhall was in the beginning used as the rehearsalroom. This first lineup of the band was a sixpiece with two drummers! It included Stefan Fredin- bass guitar, vocals, Pocke Öhrström - guitar, vocals, Dag Lundquist - drums, Olle Thörnvall - harmonica, guitar, Dag Kronlund - piano and Johan Gullberg- drums. In 1971 Pocke, Johan and Dag K. left and Robert joined on vocals and guitar. In 1972 Olle quit playing harmonica to concentrate on the lyrics, leaving the band to concist only of Stefan, Dag and Robert. They decided they needed a good
guitarplayer and started to audition some guitarists. Through these auditions they found Christer who joined the band in summer 1972. The band rehearsed intensively for a year and a half and developed a style of their own quite unlike the main trend in Swedish rock during the Seventies... 2013 started with a show in Tokyo, Japan in January.
INVERNALIA
"s/t"

Invernalia is a new project from Buenos Aires, from the creative mind of Aldo Pinelli, also leader of the Argentinian band Habitat and author of three solo albums. Now Invernalia come with more instrumental parts, with different atmospheres that can invoke the first Genesis, Yes and Le Orme of guitar period. The album is full of sweet melodies, sometimes melancholic, sometimes epic, from seventies style to neo-prog, from baroque textures and rhytmic parts to evocative ambient sounds. Invernalia are Aldo Pinelli (guitar, bass, keyboards, voice), Mario Pugliese (drums), Paula Dolcera (flute), Sebastian Calise (violin), Eli Minervini (piano), Roberto Sambrizzi (percussions, drums on La Batalla de los cinco ejercitos", inspired by "The Hobbit" by J.R.R. Tolkien). A new magical moment for south-american progressive rock".
GIZMO
"Marlowe's Children - part 1 The Innocence"

It was 1975 and prog-rock was all the rage. David Radford, a young singer-songwriter from Canterbury had just secured a recording contract with President Records. The label, run by father and son team Ed* and David Kassner, were impressed by Radford's writing talent after hearing a demo-tape recorded at the original Oakwood Studios in 1974. President wanted a single released as quickly as possible and invited Radford's band Gizmo up to Regent Sound Studio in London's Tin Pan Alley (Denmark Street) to record seven of his songs. The band that recorded that first single and other unreleased tracks comprised: David Radford - 12 string guitar and vocals, Graeme Quinton-Jones - Keyboards and guitar, Mick Curd - Guitar, David Jones - Keyboards, Martin Judd - Bass guitar and David Smith - Drums. It is amazing how both Dave and Martin were able to write and record the songs for this album, when they both had such life threatening conditions.
