. JULY 2017
To my joy and happiness, because I am an unconditional fan of Progressive Rock in this country, and from what country I could be referring to, of course, I am referring to Italy, which is always at the top of musical innovations, with a massive presence of new talented musicians with impressive creativity. This new generation, from musicians and bands, which is coming up with a huge force, is keeping even more alive the tradition of the best of Progressive Italian Rock. Each year new bands have been emerging, and always with innovations in the arrangements and a modern musicality, however, without losing the excellence and the influences of the traditional Seventies bands. I have the honor and the pleasure to choose, as one of the best bands and album of 2017, and one of the incredible Italian bands born in the twenty-first century, with a wonderful musical representation, here is my choice for this July's month, Il Tempio delle Clessidre. Il Tempio delle Clessidre was born in 2006 starting as a project, from an idea by the Genoeses Elisa Montaldo keyboardist and composer and Gabriele Guidi Colombi, who previously had been both members of a band called Hidebehind. Elisa Montaldo, contacted the veteran Stefano "Lupo" Galifi, singer on the album "Zarathustra"  by the Italian prog rock band Museo Rosenbach, one of the seventies icons from the Italian Progressive Rock, to be part of this daring project. Initially, the group was composed as a quintet. After several changes in the line-up, in September 2010 the band released an eponymous debut album on the independent label Black Widow Records. The final formation has the following members by having: Elisa Montaldo on piano, organ, keyboards, concertina, vocals, Fx; Stefano "Lupo" Galifi on Vocals; Giulio Canepa on the guitars; Fabio Gremo on bass and Paolo Tixi on drums. Nevertheless after the first album, Stefano "Lupo" Galifi returned to his original band Museo Rosenbach. Il Tempio delle Clessidre has quite of a successful Symphonic Progressive Rock, they follow in the same line of the best and already established Italian Progressive Rock style. However, I would still add excellent references to more modern styles, supplemented with subtle touches to some references from famous English bands. Their music is rich, warm and full with some amazing powerful moments followed by more reflective elements. In fact, the band's musical arrangements are composed by a magnificent instrumental range, with a strong emphasising in all the instruments, keyboards, Guitars, bass and drums, also in the vocals. Il Tempio delle Clessidre blends incredible references from italian bands such as "Le Orme", "Banco del Mutuo Soccorso", "Balletto di Bronzo", "Museo Rosenbach", "Locanda delle Fate", "Cherry Five", "Semiramis", "Delirium", "Premiata Forneria Marconi" and British bands like "Genesis", "Yes" and "King Crimson". "Il-lûdere" is their third work released this year, on CD and vinyl, by Black Widow Records, the album, on CD, is composed by ten songs, including a bonus track, almost 56 minutes of a outstanding musical delight, no doubt all tracks have an excellent musical performance, all of the songs are perfect. But, here is my favorites tracks: "La Parola Magica", "Come Nelle Favole", "Dentro La Mia Mente", "Spettro Del Palco", "Prospettive", "Nuova Alchimia" and "La Spirale Del Vento". However, such as their first two albuns, this third one, it's a progressive rock work very well dominated by an incredible instrumental, followed by strong vocals by Francesco Ciapica. If you’ve never listened any Il Tempio delle Clessidre album before, "Il-lûdere" offers you an excelent opportunity to know their works. Do not think twice to listen to this wonderful album and learn more about this fantastic band, you can bet that you will not regret. If you like of "Montefeltro", "Corte dei Miracoli", "Il Trono dei Ricordi", "Sensitiva Immagine", "Premiata Forneria Marconi", "Calliope", "Banco del Mutuo Soccorso", "Finisterre", "La Torre dell'Alchimista", "La Maschera di Cera", "Le Orme", "Alphataurus", "Locanda Delle Fate", "Maxophone", "Museo Rosenbach", "Cherry Five", "Latte e Miele", "Consorzio Acqua Potabile", you will love Il Tempio delle Clessidre. Brilliant and fantastic, an amazing album and band, highly recommendable...

Il Tempio Delle Clessidre is an Italian rock band, whose style draws inspiration from the hard and progressive rock of the Seventies and seeks to recreate that sound blending it with a typically Italian taste for melody as well as a distinctly modern approach. Great attention is paid to the integration between the music and the lyrics, with particular reference to the emotional sphere, nature and tradition.

The band was born in 2006 starting from an idea by the Genoese keyboardist Elisa Montaldo, who contacted Stefano "Lupo" Galifi, singer on the album "Zarathustra" by the Italian prog-band Museo Rosenbach, regarded as a masterpiece of the genre. After completing the line-up, the band performed live the entire Museo album and started writing its own compositions.

The first self-titled album was released in October 2010 on the Italian label Black Widow Records and gave the band an immediate success in the RPI niche, granting them the participation in important concerts and festivals in Italy and abroad (among the others the prog festival in Veruno a gig in Seoul, South Korea, filmed on a DVD released in 2014, and the prestigious NEARfest, in Pennsylvania, USA). It contains a song dedicated to Boccadasse, a beautiful ancient district in Genova, and a recitative by the Genoese songwriter Max Manfredi, and at this point it has reached a fourth reprint.

In 2013, with the new singer Francesco Ciapica, the band released the second album, "alieNatura", dealing with the complex and conflictual relationship between Man and Nature. The cover was painted by Alessandro Sala, a Genoese painter very sensitive to these issues. Other live performances and festival invitations followed (Spirit of 66 in Belgium, Crescendo Festival and Prog'Sud in France).

In 2014 an acoustic version of some songs taken from the first two albums has been performed live, gaining a good response from critics and audience. The same show was also successfully performed at the Verona Prog Fest in 2015.

In 2016 Mattias Olsson, drummer from the well known Swedish band Änglagard joined the band.

On May 14th 2017 the band released their third studio album, "Il-lûdere", presenting songs that alternate a strong rock character and a more immediate perception to the soundtrack or traditional music atmospheres, while maintaining the richness of the arrangements and the depth of the topics that have always characterized the band. The new work is an exhortation to take life with a light-hearted and funny mood, a kind of `filter' to be applied to reality to turn it into a fantastic and playful thing.
