. VERMILLION SKYE - "The Dream Sequence"
                                     - "Random Kinetic Overtures"
In 1984, vocalist Bill Reill and guitarist Geoff Polegato formed Act 1 with writer/keyboardist Jeff Johnston and drummer Steve Gerlewych. For over six years they performed their distinctive brand of original music all over Ontario; in clubs, at concerts, and for worthy causes. Twelve years later, the band re-united under the new name: Vermillion Skye. With the addition of power bassist Chris Robertson, the chemistry was complete to start their first studio project. It's no wonder. Compelling lyrics, precision harmonies, and passionate performances distinguish this guitar and keyboard- oriented Toronto Progressive Rock quintet from their peers. Their first two albums are a fusion of musical styles as diverse as the backgrounds of the members themselves. Vermillion Skye is part of the Canadian Progressive Rock scene, I have admit that the music is really great but not very complex, when you grow more into the albuns it gets a more familiar with bands of years 70 and 80. Parts of the songs some times remember "Yes" and "Pink Floyd" at other times remember "Alan Parson Project" and "Styx", with a wide ranging of good influences the band includes their special and precise musical style, with this the music from Vermillion Skye is highly accessible to any listener. "The Dream Sequence" is a concept album based on a night's dreams, it was recorded at Toronto's StudioWorks and produced by founding member  Bill Reill. My special and particular attention to the songs: "The Dream Sequence", "Saboteur", "Transcend" and "Mason Stret". "Random Kinetic Overture" was produced and engineered by Dave Beatly, recorded and mixed at Q.E.D Media Toronto, Canada. My special and particular attention to the songs: "What is Mine", "I Knew a Girl", "Good Night Cinderella", "My Decay" and "Americas's Children". The band are: Bill Reill - Vocals, Jeff Johnston - Keyboards, Geoff Polegato - Guitars, Chris Robertson - Bass and Steve Gerlewych - Drums. Excellent work, high recommendable...

. ANYONE'S DAUGHTER - "Requested Document Live 1980-1983"
The Band Anyone's Daughter was founded in the mid-seventies, in the southwest of Germany you don't have to explain the name Anyone's Daughter to the true progressive rock fan. Anybody in the early 80s who was interested in complexly structured rock music and who was living somewhere in-between the French border in the west, middle Bavaria in the east, the river Main in the north and Switzerland in the south has certainly seen this band live. Their first LP "Adonis" in 1979. Over the years, they were constantly gigging in the southwest of Germany. Their second LP "Anyone's Daughter" was released in 1980. This album featured their radio hit "Moria". In 1981 they released their 40 minute epic "Piktors Verwandlungen", based on a fairy tale by Herman Hesse. This album turned out to be Anyone's Daughters biggest success. Consequently, the band changed to German lyrics on their following LPs "In Blau" (1982) and "Neue Sterne" (1983). After more than 500 gigs and more than 120.000 sold albums over the years, the album "Live" (1984) saw the light of day. The constant line-up split as some members had to start their community service. A new line-up in 1984 split after a few concerts. A year 2000 line-up of Anyone's Daughter exists. They released the CD "Danger World" (2001) and started touring successfully in 2001 continuing to 2002. I would like to start the year with a simple commentary but very significant, a magnificent document or, one of the most important German bands and their exuberant release from 2001, Anyone's Daughter, of course, is a registered mark that express the original German Prog Rock. Requested Document Live 1980-1983 is this magnificent document, all performances were captured alive including all the best songs that the band produced during all these years, all of the tracks contain different arrangements, the result was a double album with each song you will discover more and more nice bits and pieces. The album features previously unreleased recordings. The source were digitally processed soundboard tapes, it must absolutely be accepted in any collection of CDs. Featured in this CD Anyone's Daughter was: Matthias Ulmer – keyboards, vocals, Harald Bareth – vocals, bass, Uwe Karpa – guitars, Kono Konopik – drums (until summer 1981) and Peter Schmidt – drums (from summer 1981 on). Excellent and indispensable work, high recommendable...

. DARGAARD -"The Dissolution of Eternity"
Dargaard is Austrian two-piece and was founded by Tharen ("Abigor", "Amestigon", "Heidenreich", "Dominion") in 1997. The band was his opportunity to step away from his usual genre (Black Metal) and experiment with a different approach to express attitudes and feelings. With Elisabeth Toriser ("Abigor", "Antichrisis", "Dominion"), who took over the vocal responsibilties in 1998, Dargaard was able to successfully complete the recording of theire debut Cd,"Eternity Rites", released by Napalm Records under the Draenor Productions banner in October 1998. August the following has Dargaard back in the studio. The follow up to "Eternity Rites" remains within Dargaard`s signature style and promise to prove once again their undeniable skill in creating superior melodies and atmosphere. it´s probable that we will not find commentary on this band in Progressive Rock Sites, which would be the reason? Because they are classified as a Power Metal Band, the music from this album has nothing to do with Power Metal, the musical themes are more varied and the instruments sound more natural, the music is a perfect mixes of styles as New Age, Dark Wave, Neo-Classical, Symphonic, Folk, including some thing as medival with melodics touchs and richly textured in all instruments. As a matching we can make a similarity with some works from "Mike Oldfield". "The Dissolution of Eternity"  is the third part of a trilogy, where the first one is called "Eternity Rites" and the second part is"In Nomine Aeternitatis". Music and marked lyrics by Tharen, vocals composition by Elisabeth Toriser. Main theme from "Phantasm Supreme" taken from the movie "Phantasm" produced by Tharen. Excellent and indispensable work, high recommendable...

. ULYSSES - "Eclectic"
Ulysses is a Dutch Progresssive Symphonic Rock Band formed by five musicians. It all starded in December 1998, when the brothers Mozer (Raymond on drums and Ron on Keyboards) decided to form a band in which they could express their musical ideas. They contacted the Guitarist Sylvester Vogelenzang de Jong, who the brothers knew from his former band "Near Dark". From that moment on they started write the material. Of course the band also needed a bass player, Ron asked Marcel Dingemanse, with whom he had played in several bands in the past, to join the band and after a try out, he did. To complete Ulysses, they quest for a vocalist was started. Sylvester suggested to contact former singer of his former band. Within a few weeks Raymond Jansen completede the the band. After a year of rehearing and writng a lot material, Raymond deceded to move to Norway. The members started lookin for a new drummer, in March 2000 the enthusiastic René van Haaren was reacted. Réne seemed to be what the band needed to complete the band, both musicaly and personally. In May 2001 the bass player Marcel left for others plans. Through Réne van Haaren, Ulysses contacted Réne Schippers, a bass player with years of experience. Then the new bass player thought he would work out well and decided to join Ulysses. The dominant style of Ulysses is a mixture of Symphonic Progressive Rock and Hard Rock, but in some parts the music tends to be categorised as Progressive Metal, which sounds like a mix of "Deep Purple", "Rush", "Dream Theater", there is a special thing in all vocals that it´s very similar to the "David Surkamp" from an American band called "Pavlov's Dog", the instrumental works and vocals are astonishingly rich and for me this is one of the highlights, a exceptionally powerful Progressive Rock band and a great revelation for the year 2002. Eclectic is the Ulysses first cdemo, contains five songs including two videos from the band on stage, it was recorded on September 30th and mixed on October 1st, 2001 at Tribute Sound Redording Studios. The art cover disign was a Silvester´s idea, he used the image of a surrealist Dutch painting "Hans Kanters", they had exclusive permission to use excerpts of the painting for the cover design. My special and particular attention to the songs: "Hero For One Day", "Disbeliever" and "Once In A Lifetime". Ulysses are: Raymond Jansen - Vocals, Sylvester Vogelenzang de Jong - Guitars, Ron Mozer - Keyboards, Réne Schippers - Bass and René van Haaren - Drums. Excellent and indispensable work, high recommendable...

. HAMADRYAD - "Conservation Of Mass"
Here’s one of the nicest surprises of the late year, which comes from Canada, the band Hamadryad that had their starting-point in 1995 by uniting musicians from different regions of the Montreal areas. Ahead of this project there’s the bassist Jean-François Désilets, who’s the most experienced musician in the band, and for ages he had tried to keep this dream alive. Notwithstanding the band could only reach their solid line-up in the year 2000. As a fruit of this solidity Hamadryad made us know their debut Cd whose title is ‘’Conservation of Mass’’. A very nice work, which features some heavy and soft songs, where they pleasantly follow the heavy, progressive, classic and jazzy tendencies, but most of all, the musical direction of the band consist basically of powerful themes with superb interventions of the electric guitar. The music of Hamadryad really remind me of the greatest bands I know from the progressive scene, which they are and will ever be in my heart, it seems to me that the Hamadryad boys were entirely able to join all of them into an only band, otherwise the music of these Canadian boys won’t only please those who prefer listening to powerful themes, it is also possible to find in their music fine interventions of the acoustic guitar, à la "Steve Howe", at all events it is quite essential to say that the guitar player of Hamadryad is called Denis Jalbert. ‘’Conservation of Mass’’ has shown where the band really want to go, much longer than to issue an only album for sure. Besides of being consisted in stunning instrumentalists, the band have also presented a very positive point in the person of Jocelyn Beaulieu, who’s the lead singer; his voice is simply marvelous and his vocalic variations sound in fact as practiced by someone who  persevered quite much until to reach such a perfection. Also, another point not to be forgotten by me, the keyboardist Francis Doucet was very bright by deciding to rescue the sonority of the old Hammond Organ, Minimoog and Mellotron; all of that   sounded greatly well.  All in all, the music of Hamadryad is for all of us who are always in search of something fair and exciting. The band Hamadryad consist of the following musicians: Jocelyn Beaulieu - Lead and back vocals, six strings electric & classical guitars, Jean-François Désilets - Bass, lead and back vocals, Denis Jalbert - Six and twelve strings electric & acoustic guitars, back vocals, Francis Doucet - Hammond Organ, Mellotron, Minimoog and Roland Synthesizers and Yves Jalbert - Drums, percussion and back vocals. ‘’Conservation of Mass’’ is highly recommendable. . TAMOUZ - "The Orange Season Is Over"
By 1973 Israel had been attacked by several Arab countries that led to a terrible war The Yom Kippur War, this war, where the Tamouz member "Ariel Zilber" lost his leg, was very traumatic for the Israeli people and put a stop to all musical and cultural activities in Israel of that time. After this war, many artists tried to express their pain. Then after this, in 1976 an important effort from the obscured Israeli prog scene was a super group called Tamouz, led by two of the most important Rock artist of all era, "Shalom Hanoch" and "Ariel Zilber". Tamouz was an important Israel´s band that emerged by 1975 and released only one album by early 76’. This album is very rare around the Progressive Rock scene and also is not very known from many of us, Israel does not have tradition in bands of Progressive Rock, unlike many progressive scenes throughout the world, the Israeli Progressive Rock scene remained virtually unknown outside of Israel and in some cases also in Israel Itself. This is hard to define the Tamouz music, although we have the impression that we've heard it somewhere else, they have a combination of various elements and lot of styles, with tendencies of Classic American Hard Rock with some Psych passages and a little of Country Music, except for some tracks where the band contributes virtually with a good prog songs with long and complex instrumental passages, all lyrics are sung in Hebrew. This album represents something I've wanted to have for a long time. "The Orange Seasons Is Over", originally released by Israel CBS in 1976, now distribute by a great and important MIO Records, founded in Israel, in 2001. MIO Records is dedicated to promote “lost” Progressive Music masterpieces. The founders took it upon themselves to re-issue RIO (Rock in opposition), Psych, Avant-garde and Progressive Classics recorded during the 60’s and 70’s as well as to release new and high Israel quality music of our own time. Now we are waiting for the "Zingale" and "Sanhedrin" a new revelation from Israel Prog Scene. My special and particular attention to the songs: "The Deeper The Bluer", "I Don´t Know How To Tell You" and "The Orange Seasons Is Over".  Tamouz are: Shalom Hanoch - Acoustic guitar, Main Vocals, Ariel Silber - Vocals, Piano, Electric Piano, Hammond, Syntysizer, Meir Israel - Drums, Prucssion, Vocals, Eitan Gidron - Electric Bass, Vocals, Yehuda Eder - Electric Guitar, Vocals and additional musicians: Morton Kam & Zeev Dickwart - Saxophone, Romano Haim - Wah-Wah Guitar (Churchills guitarist) and Zaroya Lahav - Violin. Excellent and indispensable work, high recommendable...

. THE DAYJOB ORCHESTRA - "Unsolicited Material"
The Dayjob Orchestra consists of five Toronto-based musicians who play in other bands and work for a living. (so far). Michael Thorne is the drummer, and the guy whose idea this all was... It started out when he met Chris Robertson while he was in high school. He was in a band called Anastasia in 1988/89 and Chris replaced Tom Skilton on bass. A guy He called Steve Strat was on guitar, & Brett Kocsis on vocals. He soon discovered that the whole music industry revolves around the tastes of fourteen year-olds. Therefore challenging, musically satisfying music had (apparently) no place in "the business". Brett went on to form "Diamond Zye" with Steve Marinucci, Joe Delima, Brian McDonald, and an assortment of drummers, including Dale Harrison (now with "The Headstones"). Chris and Michael became "Jack Secret", with Dave Brolley on guitar, then Ken Kroeker and Michael Sinardi on vocals, playing strange originals and covers, like "Rush", "Genesis", and other non-commercial material. This Canadian five-piece have put together a richly textured album that mixes Progressive Rock, Progressive Metal, Hard Rock,  and Classical Rock, it was created as a fusion of some musical styles, where the main base is in the fantastic guitar, this is one those releases that features musicians playing exactly the right kind of guitar soils and riffs. It would not be just to make matching but inside of a similar string we can associate some thing a little similar to "Rush", or better saying you must listen this great work and it takes the conclusions yourselves, you will not repent. The objective of the group has been to keep the commitment to consolidate a work of nice album and thus integrate into the Progressive Rock scene. As "Michael Thorne" said: "Play what you want...what you feel, In other words, be the musician you want to be". "Unsolicited Material" was recorded between November 1997 to Present, the CD has fifteen tracks. My special and particular attention to the songs: "Planetarium" (is the Best), "Wednesday", "Daytime", "Innocent" and "Rant & Flave". The Dayjob Orchestra are: Peter Swann - Guitar, Keyboard Programming, Steve Marinucci - Guitar, Vocals, T.J Armstrong - Bass Guitar, Chris J Robertson - Bass Guitar and Michael Thorne - Drums, percussion, Bass, Vocals. Excellent work, high recommendable...

. INDEX - "Liber Secundus"
The Brazilian Progressive Rock band Index was founded in mid-1998 by former "Quaterna Requiem" member Jones Junior stemming from his love for rock, renaissance and baroque music. Soon after musicians Otaviano Kury, Eliane Pisetta e Fabricio Santalucia joined the band. The fruit of their collaboration was Index's debut album, named after the band, and which is receiving praise from critics around the world. The first album, released in the Brazilian winter of 1999, was available in Europe, Asia and North America. It is comprised of six tracks, written by guitarist "Jones Junior" and the musician Jasson Freire from Rio de Janeiro, except by "Setimo Selo", written by Jones Junior, Jasson Freire and bassist Luis Bahia, also from Rio de Janeiro. The name Index comes to a catalog of books proscribed by the Catholic Church. Luminaries such as Kepler and Galileo had works listed in it. In Galileo´s case, the church´s pardon came soon, in the 1990´s. After all, no one can be stupid for over four centuries, a small source of comfort. Nowadays, the hordes have, in their own way, an Index guided by a diminutive view of reality and by the necessity of standartization, be it in the Arts or Sciences. And alas for those who dare awaken the hordes from this lethargy. So it must be a source of pride to be able to state the one is not living or thinking because of the hordes. The hordes be damned! The best of Man has always been in the Index. Now they are back again with a second work, better than the first one, powerful and very professional. As many good Progressive bands today they get o lot of inspiration from the source itself, the music is melodic, symphonic and very sensitive, which seens to be perfect, they have worked harder on the songs and on the arrangements. The influences are very concentrated in so many classics bands from early 70's, better saing the sounds would be a mix from the British bands like Camel, Caravan, Genesis, etc... All Guitar and Keyboards solos have a quality production and performances that are true to the usual style make the listening enjoyable. "Liber Secundus" is the second Index production. The album contains seven long and e excellents tracks. My special and particular attention to the songs: "Portões de Gaza", "Guernica em Nova York", "Instantes" and "Novella" (Is the Best). Defintely among the top great Brazilian prog bands of today. Index are: Jones Júnior - Guitars and Vocals, Ronaldo Schenato - Bass Guitar, Otaviano Kury - Keyboards and Vocals, and Leonardo Reis - Drums and Vocals, special guest: Cristina Sachet - Backing Vocals and Vocals and Rafael Reis - Harmonica. Excellent and indispensable work, high recommendable...

. NEURAL MASS - "Descent Into The Lower World"
Neural Mass is another Canadian outfit, this one comes out of Montréal and was formed in 1992. Following the good Canadian Progressive Rock bands traditions Neural Mass captures influences from many styles as Hard Rock, Progressive Rock, Neo-progressive, Classic Rock, Experimental Pop/Rock and Progressive Metal, we are talking about a style reaching from every elements of music, where the compositions feature a wide variety of instruments, some times with an explosive guitar and some times expressive, exuberant and solid keyboards, to the better describe Neural Mass, the band follows influences or something very similar with "Dream Theatre", "Genesis", "Marillion", "IQ", "ELP", "Rush", etc... added particularitities that define a special style to the band, each music with a different surprise, I am sure you won't be disappointed. "Descent Into the Lower World" is the first release from the band, recorded and mixed at Studio Victor Montréal, produced by Gary Floyd and Sylvain Rodrigues. Distribute by MP3.com. My special and particular attention to the songs: "Silence", "Anthropophagus", "More Suffering to Follow", "Scratched and Yellowed" and "Descent Into the Lower World" (is one of the best). Neural Masse are: Gary Floyd - Keyboards, Flute, Vocals, Lyrics, Sylvain Rodrigue - Drums and Lyrics,  P.P. . THE ILLUSION - "Mind illusion"
The Illusion is an Italian band who declares itself as the "Sons of Pink Floyd". If you're a fan of the greatest Prog Rock band of the world, you must verify by yourself if they are really PF's sons by listening their sound. I'd had that, and - what a surprise - noticed they really are. I started listening "The Illusion of Life" and I believe this one is their masterpiece, the most beautiful and PF alike song, with very pure e-guitar played just as D. Gilmour would... Almost all of their songs reminds the post Roger Waters' Pink Floyd era, e.g., "Momentary Lapse of Reason" and "The Division Bell", but also some pieces sound as a track in "Meddle" or in "Wish You Were Here". For example, "Leaving the Earth" is a piece that would be composed in early '70. The band balances the instrumental compositions and songs supported by lyrics in their CD's, and instead the songs' structure is just  Floydian, the lyrics of The Illusion don't look like Pink Floyd, or better saying, like Roger Waters, except for the "Uncertain Way" which lyric reminds strongly the melancholy of the British band. They show also their inherited ancient style of  old Italian pop music. It seems that they had recorded only two CD's since their start in 1999, and I hope deeply that they continue composing and performing like "Pink Floyd", keeping their originality and their Italian culture heritage. "Mind Illusion" is the first album and you can feel all this influence but also a preserved autonomy and personalisation in the form, in the technic and in the melodie. Summer 1999 - Release of the record of the Concert at Rosarno - Calabria in occasion of the event "Miss Calabria 1999", The Illusion was the official band in this event. The band are: Emilio and Antonello; they play hammond, synt, piano, guitar, bass and drums. Excellent and indispensable work, high recommendable to all prog fans and also to all Pink Floydians...(By Clara Y. Yamamoto)

. TRAUMHAUS - "Same"
Traumhaus is a four pices and was born in German. The band's offspring dates back to 1994, however, in the early days they were known under the name "Zweeback". Only 3 years ago - in 1998 -did the switch to their current musical style occur. At that time a radical stilistic change took place and alongside with that the band's name was changed into "Traumhaus" what means "House of Dreams"., a building an imaginary house where all kinds of dreams flow together and can be dreamt simultaneously. Traumhaus as a German band want to have their domestic listeners digging deep into their thoughts and ideas, this is also the key reason for the utilization of the German language in the lyrics. The name Traumhaus sounds accurately as a place of dreams, a full place where we can travel between musical styles as Progressive Rock, Hard Rock, Classical Rock and Symphonic Rock. The band has two important points in the musical string, that can be found in the keyboards and the guitars, all guitars sounds are powerful, with some influences of heavy metal, for another way the keyboards has soft symphonic melodies, this makes that the band has a nice and elegant sophisticated Progressive Rock. This band follows the traditions of pure German Rock of years 70' and 80' mixed with the English Hard Rock, better saying, but not comparing, something for all lovers of Jane, Novalis, Anyone's Daughter, Sahara, etc... Traumhaus created their proper signature and a sensible style to play Progressive Rock. Traumhaus - "same" is the first CD and contain eight tracks. 60 minutes of brand new music for your listening pleasure, after first track the CD opens up with a suite of songs that really place you into a "House of Dreams". My special and particular attention to the songs: "Ausgeliefert" (is the Best), "Wandler", "Navanita" and "An Abgrund". The band consist of the following musicians: Frank Woidich - Organ, Synthesizer, Backing Vocals, Bernhard Selbach - Guitars, Backing Vocals, Bass Pedals, Michael Dorniak - Backing Vocals, Bass, Drums, Alexander Weyland - Vocals, Synthesizer, Piano and Nina Weyland - Guest Vocals. Excellent and indispensable work, highly recommendable...

. POEGS - "The Frogressive Rock Sampler"
Poegs was created in 1999 as a German rock band featured by only one talented musician called Christian Zumdick. All the tasks, from composing to performing, are made by himself. I'd met his songs seeking for songs under "Pink Floyd's influence", and he is one of the many artists influenced by the legendary British band. But Poegs has many other backgrounds to make his sound so original and amazing. He had influenced by the great New Age, Electronic and Progressive Rock bands beside Pink Floyd, such as Tangerine Dream, Jean Michel Jarre, Camel, Kitaro, Jethro Tull and so on, which result is a very happy marriage between those different genres. Beside this, I wonder he has also a very good classical music background. Some tracks sound me as modern Chopin's sonatas and others sound like baroque pieces or romantic chamber music... By the way, he had recorded two adaptations from classical masterpieces that are "Adagio" composed by T. Albinoni and "The Moldau" by B. Smetana, both of them really beautiful and original interpretations. Poegs performs his music pieces playing e-guitars, piano, keyboards and also synthesiser (with or without drums) in a very unique harmony and appearance succession along each composition, always light and softly. You will never hear any heavy sound from his songs, even in the most psychedelic or powerful one. To a distracted listener his compositions may sound sometimes very simple and maybe even monotonous, but actually they are very carefully detailed and featured. An important detail: he is a rare artist that has published almost all his compositions on the Web, so you can listen to his songs all available to be downloaded from his many homepages. Last year he was awarded as one of Top 10 Artists in the "Electronic" category by "mPulse.com" and released three albums. "The Frogressive Rock Sampler" is one of them. Highlight to "Unbearable Emptiness", "Landscape", "Through a Luminous Galaxy"... But also listen to other albums! The last album is "In Somnius", composed of 12 tracks of dream-making new age songs, and the another is "The New Frogressive Age Sampler" that contains a collection of the new age alike songs released since 99. Poegs' songs deserve to be carefully listened by all progressive rock and new age/world music fans and also even by all classical music fans... (By Clara Y. Yamamoto)

. DREAMLAND - "Underwater"
DreamLand is an electronic, sychedelexperimental music duet from Texas, Johnny A. Rodriguez  and James H. Sidlo created New RAge Music. The style of music is best described as New Age Music on the cutting edge. Soft ambient music is created utilizing guitar electronics and synthesizer keyboards. By guiding the listener through an aural maze of textural sound, DreamLand is dedicated to presenting audiences with new experiences in listening. DreamLand has performed at various art galleries and other alternative spaces as well as private functions. These artists were given the apace and time to explore an improvisational theme for a musically-adventurous audience . DreamLand is an instrumental band, their music is very electronic in nature and reminscent of groups like "Tangerine Dream" or "Kraftwerk", which pioneered the dance- industrial "revolution". These two guys are great to listen to as you drive through moments in the good years 70 where the age of electronic músic was on the top. The sounds were probably concentrated on the earlier works of Tangerine Dream. That is very good remembering some thing similar or same with "Phaedra", "Rubycon", "Ricochet", etc... "Underwater" is the debut albun and was mixed and mastered at Doghouse Laboratory by Bobdog Catlin, this cd is avaliable at Uncle Buzz Records, with five long traks of pure and imaginary space trip.  My special and particular attention to the songs: "Brief Moon" and "Underwater" divided in five parts (is the Best). DreamLand is: Johnny A. Rodriguez - Synths, keyboards, Native American flutes and extended vocals and James H, Sidlo Guitar, Loops, Atmospherics. Excellent and indispensable work, highly recommendable...

. ANDERS HELMERSON - "Fields of Inertia"
Anders Helmerson grew up in a small town in south Sweden, called Kalmar during the sixties. Anders knew that he wanted to be a musician. From age 7 to 10 he only listened to Jazz. By 11 he became interested in classical music and started training for that purpose. This was a reflection by his own development as a boy having a mother being a classical piano teacher and a father being a Jazz pianist, not always without conflicts. In the beginning of the seventies, he changed his musical desire into a more contemporary rock interest. He says: "I just heard Yes' Fragile album on the radio and it felt like a flash of revelation.  He bought the album and listened to it repeatedly. He seemed to hin like it contained some kind of unspecific message, something that told hin to get away, to travel, to change his life. Being interested in rock also implied a change of life for Anders as he moved from home and played with musicians and various bands in Kalmar, as "Ragnarök", "Kung Tung", "Flodotto". He played keyboard, sax and flute. Now it was almost 15 years since he had left the music business and he was eager to see in what ways it had changed. He started traveling around looking at studios. From Brazil, he went to England and the USA. Anders Helmerson is a Swedish keyboard player with a creative sensitivity to search new ideas, or better saying, something a little different, not very common that we are accustomed to listen, it is not easy to match primitive and strange instruments of percussion with synthesizers, the first experience was with "Patrick Moraz" album “I”, the second one was with Anders, a blend of Patrick Moraz, Rick Wakeman and Jean Michel Jarre with a sensible Swedish touch. He used instruments as berimbao, a classical Bahia instrument, Cuica, a drum with a stick (or joystick) attached to the inner side of the skin, all of them played in a perfect harmony with the keyboards, Drums and Bass . "Fields of Inertia" is the second CD production with eight tracks, featured some Brazilian percussionists. My special and particular attention to the songs: "Winds Of Olodum", "City Of A Hauting Silence" and "Infinite Fields Of Inertia". The musicians are: Anders Helmerson - Keyboards, Kika Tristao - Vocals, Su Lyn - Vocals, Mutch Katsonga - Vocals, Valmir Bessa - Drums, Celio de Carvalho - Percussion, Robertinho Silva - Percussion and Rogerio Dy Castro - Bass. Excellent and indispensable work, highly recommendable...

. ARCHETYPE - "Dawning"
Archetype was formed in July, 1997 in Cleveland, Ohio. Chris Matyus and a friend who sang were working together on Chris' music with a drum machine and a four track recorder from October of 1996 until July of 1997. Throughout this time, they were unable to locate any other band mates who were willing and capable of joining the band. Finally, once Chris had graduated from college (May, 1997), he spoke with his long time friend (guitarist) from high school who was graduating from college soon and asked him to join. Seeing that the band needed a bass player, Jamie Still, who was friends from high school with this guitarist, was asked and agreed to become part of the band. Finally, the singer had heard of drummer Keith Zeigler through friends and when he told Chris the drummer transcribed Rush and Dream Theater Chris said "just tell him he's in"! As a five-piece band called "Prototype", they began learning some of Chris' originals and various cover songs. After a gig at a friends party, the singer decided to leave the band and as a four piece, Prototype gigged instrumentally for several months. They decided to change their name to "Archetype" due to the use of Prototype by several other bands. Now Archetype is back again, more powerful, more professional and more Progressive Metal than the first demo CD. Their music oscillates between technical Progressive Rock and Melodic Heavy Prog with strong influences of Heavy Metal. This is one those bands that features musicians playing exactly the right kind of strong guitar and bass sounds mixed with two diferents vocals, sometimes powerful some times melodic and soft. You think. Where are the keyboards? It´s not necessary, the guitars complement the absence of the keyboards. "Dawning" is the second album with ten tracks, recorded at JGRS - Massilion, Ohio. Music and lyrics by Chris Matyus. I´d like to invite all prog friends to a journey at the songs: "Dawning", Dissension´s Wake", "Inside your Dreams", "Visionary" and "Years Ago" (Is the best). Archetype today consists of four members: Chris Matyus - Guitars, Greg Wagner - Vocals, Keith Zeigler - Drums and Jamie Still - Bass. Excellent and indispensable work, highly recommendable...

. DYNAMIC LIGHTS - "Resurrection"
Dynamic Lights is the name that, three years before the new Millennium, five boys decided to adopt for what would have been not only a music band, but a cluster of friends focused on develop their own ideas, unleash creativity and increase the passion for music and art in general. In fact the main goal for the Pesaro-based combo is to create music striving for evolution, vibrant, not necessarily tied to fixed schemes or to conventions dictated by already existing music styles. Not with standing the pronounced artistic personality of every single musician, however, inside the songs they can find the various influences that have shaped their sound; influences that range from rock to metal to fusion. With these qualities in mind, the band can unquestionably affirm that Dynamic Lights represent freedon and originality without compromises. Italy always produced a stunning amount of excellent Progressive Rock bands in all the times, and here is Dynamic Lights one of them. The music is atmospheric, some times Progressive Melodic and some times Progressive Metal, with a blend of distorted and soft guitars sounds, the keyboards sounds follow in the same line used with nice effects with a perfect Inspiration and also very impressive, the vocals are in English and fit in excellently with the music. Inside of a similar line and influences we can associate some thing with "Dream Theater", "Threshold" or "Treasure Land", better saying you must listen this great work and it takes the conclusions yourselves. The band is already making a name for itself. "Resurrection" is the first studio album and was recorded and mixed at Castriote Studio between September and November 2001, with four songs including a backstage video section of the band, lyrics by Matteo Infante. I´d like to invite all prog friends to a journey at the songs: Rescued From Oblivion: "Awakening/ Consciousness", "Deception/ Revenge" (Is the Best in Best), "Straight To The Sun": Part one and Part Two. The band consist of the following musicians: Marco Poderi - Guitars, Raffaele Mariotti - Bass, Matteo Infante - Lead and Backing Vocals, Simone Del Pivo - Drums and Percussion and Giovanni Bedetti - Keyboards and Piano. Excellent and indispensable work, highly recommendable...

Yuri Chudinov was qualified as Top Class music teacher. Evgeniy Gorelov and Mikhail Voronov began their music carriers in one and the same band in 1994. The name of this band was "The Ocean". They played soft and art rock. Romislokus was created as a result of the willingness of all of the musicians to experiment in the field of Progressive Rock combined elements of art rock and electronic music. For this purpose Maksim Karavaev (computer) was invited to join the project. Romislokus returns with the second album, as the first one, It´s very hard to describe and to define the music of this Russian Project, with a variable instrumental, the band tends to be more traditionally melodic using a soft Progressive Rock, mixing elements as Techno Ambient Electronic and Experimental music, they use complex compositions but without extended instrumental explorations, realy they know combine a instrumental technique, the undulations of electronic textures became indispensable parts in all compositions, creating a new level and a diferent way in a progressive rock style, decorated with nice keyboards and violin notes, all vocals are in Russian and fit in excellently with the music. "Vinyl Spring, Digital Autumn" is the second release with ten tracks, produced by Romislokus all lyrics by Yuri Chudinov and cover design by Andrey Gourianov. . WOLF HOFFMANN - "Classical"
For over 20 years Wolf Hoffmann was the lead guitarist and songwriter for the "Accept", one of the most famous German heavy metal band born in Sölingen, Germany in 1970. Wolf Hoffmann had joined the band in 1975 and had been the major responsible for its huge success still 1996 when the band was dissolved. As a solo artist, he released a few years ago his first independent CD called "Classical", that contains his very personal interpretations of 10 classical masterpieces and one original instrumental song composed by him. The CD is surprising? Or it would be predictable, considering the genius behind the idea and the main instrument? But who could imagine that a heavy metal guitarist would play the classical pieces, and in such a remarkable magnificent way! It's actually a massive quality bombardment in your hearing and in your mind! This CD is a really unexpected wonderful gift for all rock and/or classical music fans. The master of metal shows us his German classical culture heritage in all its glory, featuring and performing classical music masters' compositions as no one can do... I never enjoyed very much the original piano played Beethoven's "Für Elise", but the Wolf's interpretation conquered me as no other could do before. And so did the whole tracks in "Classical". There are three tracks from Bizet's "Carmen" Suites, one track from Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker", Ravel's "Bolero" (how amazing and beautiful interpretation!) and Smetana's "The Moldau", two pieces from Grieg's "Peer Gynt" Suites and a track from Elgar, beside a Wolf's own composition called "Western Sky". I can't point to any particular track to say "that's the best", all tracks are equally glorious and fantastic, simply you must listen to all of them!!! In MP3.com he reached the Number One position in access and downloading in year 2000 and you can download the many tracks of CD from there too. The CD is featured by Wolf Hoffmann - e-Guitars and Bass, Mike Brignardello - Bass, Michael Cartellone - Drums and Percussion, Al Kooper - Organ, Peter Baltes, and others joined to this solo project. I hope he'll bring us another gift soon, for the best joy of all music fans around the world... (By Clara Y. Yamamoto)

. LUX ETERNA - "Same"
In the March of 2001 three Russian musicians started a project, they are: Stas Berdnikov (Vocal Teacher, Composer, Bassist), Mike Novikov (Guitarist, Bassist and Composer), Yury Zlokazov (Guitarist and Composer) united their creative force under the light of Solaris Music. Thet made the own projects before, but no one have been satisfied for different reasons. Being big fans of Queen, Pink Floyd, ELP, Dream Theater, Symphony X, Ayreon, Cacophony and many other greatest bands, they want to achieve their highest level of mastery. Working together as a band they play different styles of Progressive Rock and Metal music. Currently they have a four projects: "Lux Eterna", "EliXiR", "Semantica", "Svetlojar". Lux Eterna (author - Stas Berdnikov) is a massive wall of the orchestral and choral sound with a loudness of rock band, the style would be compared as Symphonic Progressive Power Metal & Rock. This Russian Federation band features four musicians with a talent to play some thing very diferente from others bands around the world, in each music we find a different style, Melodic Rock, some times Progressive Rock, some times Metal and some times Symphonic Power Metal, as you can see a large range of styles, this time we can say that, in each composition exist a different band, still without a concrete definition that side would have to follow. For one another side, those who appreciate Progressive Rock, Metal, Power Metal and melodious music they are a good idea. Lux Eterna can be compared with bands as: "Rhapsody", "Symphony X", "Dream Theater" and "Ayreon", mainly in the sounds of the guitars, where in parts they obtain a harmony with the keyboards. At the moment they are currently seeking pro singers having own studio: male vocalists with rich voice, like Dio, John West, Fabio Lione, Russel Allen and etc.; and female vocalist, like Elaine Paige, Yvonne Elliman, ABBA. Lux Eterna recorded the first CDemo, including  thirteen tracks. My special and particular attention to the songs: "Boiling Earth", "Breeze", "Love", "Nations", "Invasion" and "Lux Eterna". At this moment Lux Eterna are: Irene Meshkova - Vocals, Stas Berdnikov - Guitars, Orchestral and choir arrangements, Vocals, Mike Novikov - Guitars, Synths, Drums, Bass and Yury Zlokazov - Guitars. I hope They willl bring us another gift soon...

. FARPOINT - "First Light"
Farpoint comes from USA and was formed in 1997. Currently the band consists of  Clark Boone, Kevin Jarvis, Dana Oxendine (vocals, flute, and keys), Frank Tyson, Johnathan Rodriguez and Shane White (soundman and head roadie). Diversity is the key to the Farpoint sound, with influences ranging from progressive, metal, and folk-rock to Celtic, classical, new-age and bluegrass. Instrumentation includes the standard rock instruments (electric and acoustic guitars, bass, drums and keyboards) augmented by classical guitar, mandolin, flute and various types of percussion. All members contribute to vocals and songwriting. What can we expect to hear when listening Farpoint for the first time? They are a band that palys Progressive Rock, Synphonic Rock as well or some thing with a lot of Folk influences, also could be classified as Melodic Rock. The fact is that, of course, together the members created a dynamic, high-energy sonic landscape blending various musical styles and influences. All the instrumental works, for example all guitars sounds, are full of tecnical harmonies that reminds, in parts, some thing very seemed as a mix of "Yes" and "Renaissance", especially in the quieter and more reflective moments. The female singer Dana Oxendine has a beautiful and sweet voice, in set with the vocals from Clark Boone that adds an excellent and rich performance to the songs, for me all the vocals are one of the highlights on this group. "First Light" is the first work, with eight tracks including one bonus track from 1999 recordings. Engineered, recorded and mixed by Kevin Jarvis assisted by Dana Oxendine and Shane White, cover artwork by David Frain. My special and particular attention to the songs: "Words Of Pain", "Long Slow Journey", "Tartans" and "To The River" (is the best). The band consist of the following musicians: Kevin Jarvis - Acoustic, Electric and Classical Guitars, Keyboards, Bass, Percussion and Mandolin, Jonathan Rodriquez - Drums and Percussion, Dana Oxendine - Lead, Backing Vocals, Flute and Keyboards, Clark Boone - Lead and Backing Vocals, 12 string Guitar, Frank Tyson - Bass Guitars, Electric and 12-String Guitars, Keyboards, Vocals and Shane White (the Farpoint honorary sixth member) live sound and various odds and ends. Excellent and indispensable work, highly recommendable...

. TORNADO - "Triumph of The King"
Tornado comes to Yugoslav/Serbian, the band's origin dates back to 1998, with musical components of old Serbian/ Byzantine Medieval (X - XIV century), however, in the early days they were known only in their homeland Yugoslavia/ Serbia. Their name "Tornado" what means "Twister" already points to the musical "twist" of various genres. They have great diversity of songs, from melodic speed metal to acoustic instrumentals. Also the band's concept is in line with its philosophy: Tornado is building an imaginary world of Justice and Truth for All. For the first time what is the impression about a Yugoslav band? Tornado join a blend of various styles as Progressive Rock, Metal, Power Progressive Metal, the best thing is the mix with old medieval, renaissance and baroque neoclassical music, a trip through history where you find Yourself in the Middle Ages, with warriors, slaves, enemies, traitors, miserables, poverty and enslaved people which demands Liberation and Justice. The sounds travel in parallel atmosphere, where some times heavy some times melodic and symphonic. Simply, better comparing some thing very similar with "Iron Maiden", "Manowar", "UFO", "Deep Purple", "Uriah Heep", "Rainbow", "Shadow Gallery", "Symphony X", "Angra" and "Helloween", but including epics elements creating the proper signature and new generation of Progressive Metal, you will love Tornado, an amazing and incredible band for all Progressive Metal fans listeners. "Triumph of The King" is the debut album of Tornado, with ten tracks. CD cover artworks by Bane Kerac. Released under the Label of Angular Records. My special and particular attention to the song is an essential composition on the album with 19 minutes called "Eternal Mystery + Epitaph". Tornado are today: Neboysha Tasich - Guitars, Vocals, George Letich - Guitars, Keyboards, Vocals, Steven Bukvich - Guitars, Sinisha Tasich - Bass, Vocals, Philip Zmaher - Lead vocals, plus session drummer. Excellent and indispensable work, highly recommendable...

. LIKE WENDY - "Summer In Eden"
Somewhere in the late nineteen-eighties a group of angry young prog-lovers gathered regularly in a pub in Amersfoort (the Netherlands) to discuss the latest releases, talk about lyrics and concerts, and sometimes to take a few drinks as well. On  one beautiful evening a brilliant soul came up with the idea of actually playing together. And so it came that "Bert Heinen" and  a couple of merry men went to Haarlem (where the drummer lived) for their first rehearsals. It soon became obvious that the band as a whole was in fact quite bad (allthough they managed to record a few songs), and that Bert would be better of solo. He built a home-studio, and started to work out his ideas under the name of Like Wendy (named after the "Laiquendi", a people from Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings", who were "Sometimes heard but seldom seen"). Seven years later Bert finally found some of his songs good enough to release, and he began to send demo-tapes to record companies and magazines. Hereafter Bert got in touch with a few record companies, but it wasn't until the autumn of 1997 that he signed up with LabraD'Or records, who released the first work "The Storm Inside" in june 1998. After the this great work Bert´s music to became very known around the world. I think there are a lot of great musicians talent in Holland that gives the music a special soul, one of them is "Bert Heinen" as Like Wendy created a style with nice symphonic angles and orchestral arrangements, an exceptional songwriting developing his own distinctive style, mixing neo-classical, neo-progressive, Symphonic Progressive Rock as well adding classical '70's elements. Under the keyboards, guitars and a variety of instruments you can listen a stunning and celestial music, nice and rich melodies with higly melodical structures. To summarize, a great special work to all prog fans from "Genesis" (from years 70'), "IQ" and "Marillion". "Summer In Eden" is the fourth work. Including nine songs. All songs written, all instruments played and all vocals sung by "Bert Heinen", except "Flame of Life" and "Inferno" additional vocals by Mark-J. Heek. My special and particular attention to the songs: "Flame of Life", "Eden", "One Last Breath", "Sorry For The Codaine" and "Holy Ground". Excellent and indispensable work, highly recommendable...

. LA MASCHERA DI CERA - "Same"
La Maschera Di Cera project began in 1991 with the composition of the song with the same title  by Fabio Zuffanti (bass player with "Finisterre" and "Hostsonaten"). This song has been rearranged through the years finding a final version only in 2001 when Zuffanti decide to form a group to recreate the glorious tradition of italian progressive of the '70, expecially the sound  of groups such as Museo Rosenbach, Biglietto Per L' inferno and Balletto Di Bronzo. In  2001 Zuffanti is joined by a group of musicians like the Finisterre keyboards player Agostino Macor, the ex Finisterre drummer Marco Cavani, the singer Alessandro Corvaglia (he plays the role of  Merlin on Merlin rock opera) and the flute player Andrea Monetti (also in the last incarnation of the legendary German group Embryo). Zuffanti and Macor works togheter in the music of La Maschera Di Cera suite and to other 3 songs to form the concept of the record. This extraordinary Progressive Rock Project coming from Italy, musically they are offering a inventive and elaborate compositions, with nice arrangements, fascinating and a melodical atmosphere, featuring great virtuous  and intricate Keyboards/Guitars works, with nice Melotrons, Moog and Harpsichord sounds, including flute, Bass and Drums songs and with the complement of vocals, with the italian lyrics, with very long instrumental compositions tracks and a typical 70's sound, you can believe that everything seem to be perfect. This work is to the pleasure of the numerous fans from legendary Italian bands as "Museo Rosenbach", "Biglietto Per L' inferno", "The Trip", "Campo di Marte" and others. La Maschera Di Cera is the first work of this project, all lyrics by Fabio Zuffanti, music by Fabio Zuffanti and Agostino Macor, arrangements by La Maschera Di Cera, artistic production: Fabio Zuffanti. My special and particular attention to the song: "La Maschera di Cera" divided in six parts, is the passport to listen the renowned italian Progressive Rock from the past. The project consist of the following musicians: Fabio Zuffanti - Bass, Acoustic Guitar, Marco Cavani - Drums, Timpani, Percussion and Compressor, Alessandro Corvaglia - Voice, Agostino Macor - Mellotron, Piano, Prepared piano, Organ, Moog, Harpsichord,  VCS 3 and Andrea Monetti - Flute, also as Guest - Nadia Girardi Voice on “Del Mio Abisso E Del Vuoto. . LEFT COAST - "Worlds Of Mystery"
Left Coast comes from San Diego, California. The history of Left Coast is a story of insight and perseverance. The founding  members co-wrote and produced the material leading to the unique and progressive sound they envisioned. Joined by a talented array of musicians, the Left Coast sound evolved. Left Coast is not an another band that emerged into this year 2002, for my surprise like many new and good Progressive Rock Bands today is that, they get a lot of inspiration from the source itself. Their music sometimes are melodics with Neo progressive parts with a variety in the musical arrangements with powerful blend of Rock and Jazz, along with a hint of fusion, in some other ways, they complement with some Hard Rock passages at its best with great keyboards and drums, the vocal ones are strong and with two tunes, although only one singer, in parts we have the impression of two singers that alternate in each part of the songs. But the one of the most important thing and the best in best are the fantastic guitar sounds, into the all tracks all solos of the guitars are full of tecnical harmonies, inspired, superb with very emotion and takes the band in a new musical directions with an original sound. Is not necessary to compare Left Coast with other bands, fact that will contribute with the success of them, however we can almost listen in one or two tracks some blends of "Rush" and "Pendragon". "Worlds Of Mystery" represents immeasurable qualities of musicianship, lyrical composition and studio techniques. An inventive Progressive Rock band which self-produced one album only, with eleven tracks it was recorded at Left Coast, San Diego, CA. Produced anf Engineered by Neal Hedegard and Roger Nigg. Certainly a work that must be part of any CD collection. My special and particular attention to the songs: "Earthquake", "On The Prowl", "Moment Of Truth", "Shadows", "Evening In Montreux", "Spanish Lover" and "Dancing On Crystal" (one of the Best). Left Coast are: Neal Hedegard - Electric, Acoustic & Bass Guitars, Roger Nigg - Drums & Percussion, Chris Kokesh - Synthesizers, Piano & Organ, Alan Smithey - Electric & Fretless Basses, Richard Pavelec - Vocals,  Guest Musicians On "Spanish Lover" Chuck Prada - Congas & Bongos and Kim Pollack - Spanish Female Voice. Excellent and indispensable work, highly recommendable...

. SPOCK'S BEARD - "The Light"
........................................ - "Beware of Darkness"
About three years ago, I was in a chat room and the name “Spock’s Beard” rose from some discussion about new prog-rock bands. Someone said that their sound was something more ‘metal’, like Dream Theater, and I lost the interest to know the band, as I was in search for more 70’s symphonic oriented prog-rock band at that time. Some months ago, I got the two first studio albums from Spock’s Beard , “The Light” (1995) and “Beware of Darkness” (1996). As I got a lot of albums at the same time, I couldn’t give the proper attention to it.  So, I made in my mind that they were just Dream Theater imitators, as once was said to me. How wrong I was... Now, several months after those miserable listenings, I could get real impression on the band’s sound. And every time I listen to them, I like it more. Spock’s Beard is really a great progressive rock band that pays tribute to every great band from the 70’s, in a faithful way. From the major influences from Yes and Gentle Giant, the big thing on listening their songs from that albums is to try to discover which band the musicians are emulating at the time. One will say that they’re not original. Even disagreeing with this, I have to say:  if they lack something in originality, they have ten times more in creativity. The Yes influences make us feel, for some moments, that we are listening to a lost album from this band, circa “Close to the Edge” and “Relayer”. There are great moments when they cheat your mind, making you think you’re listening to Wakeman landscape pads and organ solos, Mr. Squire thundering melodic bass guitar, or Steve Howe power solos and riffs, be it from Yes or Asia. Between these moments, we have: intense segments that seems to come direct from Genesis’ “The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway” (amazingly faking Steve Hackett guitar), or  Marillion’s “Misplaced Childhood” (vocal lines remembering the Fish/Peter Gabriel singing style); inspirations stolen from Gentle Giant’s “Octopus” and “The Power and the Glory”; guitar and piano duets as if Brian May and Freddie Mercury could get back to 76’ for a post “A Night at the Opera” recording; the superb version of George Harrison’s solo song “Beware of Dakness”, with an ‘Emerson-like’ organ background and guitar “noisery” a la Robert Fripp; Pink Floyd female backing vocals (as those in “Dark Side of the Moon”). There’s even a pre Rick Martin (as if Rick Martin could do something good) latin segment in the album “The Light” (‘Señor Valasco's Mystic Voodoo Love Dance’; it doesn’t spoil the album at all), with spanish guitar solos and a caribbean feeling. And more memorable moments, with cool funky bass lines, jazz and classical piano, heavy metal guitar riffs and solos, acoustic guitar duos, nice singing, sarcastic lyrics... If I had to choose one expression to resume the band sound at these two albums, it would be “world salad”. Extremely recommended to any 70’s prog-rock fan. Do a favor to yourself: go after these cd’s and more info about this great band. (By Fab Rib - FMD Fusion Machine)

. MARTIGAN - "Man of the moment"
Martigan cames from German and was founded in March 1994 by the Keyboarder "Oliver Strahl". He used his contacts in the local scene to unite different musicians in one new band. First of all the band has to satisfy the members choice in music without any commercial background. In the end of 1994 the first demo CD was recorded in two weekends with  two Dat-Recorders. This tape was used as master for the first Album of Martigan. Several concerts and gigs were the result. One of the highlight in Martigan's history was a concert with  the Canadian Progressive Rock Band "Saga" in Cologne as support act! In the mid of 1998 Juergen Edlinger left the group, in substitution Björn Bisch - Brother of the drummer Alex Bisch - joined Martigan. His own influences with spicy inspiration transfers him into the music of Martigan very fast! Now the music gets more impulsive. Also, in 2000 Axel Schuetze left the band, in substitution Peter Kindler takes his bass and gives the music of  Martigan an absolutely new dimension in deeper modulation. The years 1999 and 2000 were used for composing new songs and testing them in draft recordings. Martigan is a NeoProgressive Rock with Progressive Symphonic Rock elements, featuring incredible classical and symphonic keyboard works that are very reminiscent from classics of the early 70's and 80´s as "Genesis", "Barclay James Harvest" and "Saga", great guitar sounds that send the music into outer space, beautiful high-tone vocals that some times reminds me the charisma of Phil Collins - "Genesis", in other parts some thing like "IQ" and "Saga" vocals tone, decorated with nice drums rhythm sections. As you can see, It's not very hard to understand the style of the music that these guys are playing, but it's even better to imagine their quality in all the songs and the technical arrangements that they used in the compositions, a spiritual journey into the nice ballads and songs that are true to the usual style make the listening enjoyable. "Man Of The Moment" is the last release 2002, contain ten tracks,  total time with 75:36 min of pure and delight songs. Produced by Rudolf Nepix and Martigan. My special and particular attention to the songs: "The Pride", "Closer Contact", "7th Floor", "Feast - Intro - The Feast", "Images & Tales" and "The Mask & The Raven (II)" (one of the best). Today the band are: Björn Bisch - Guitar, Oliver Strahl - Keyboards, Kai Markwordt - Vocals, Peter Kindler - Bass, Alex Bisch - Drums and Mirko Bäumer - Guest Vocals. Excellent and indispensable work, highly recommendable...

. FLEXABLE - "Re-Flexable"
"The Union" was founded in 1992, German, for a project of Jörg Fischer. Carsten, Thomas and Jörg recorded a track called "Fortune", which was written by Jörg some years before. None of the three thought of playing together in a band. But after recording "Fortune", Jörg, Thomas and Carsten decided to write and play songs together. But Flexable was founded in 1992. After some years playing together, the band recorded a CD. Thomas and Carsten stayed in musical contact. They met "Uwe Kögel", a great and fast guitar player. Together, they composed new somgs in a different, more complex sound as Flexable. But one job was not occupied. The job of the bass player. The three searched for a good bass player, but noone seemed to fit into the group. Tired of looking for a bass player, Carsten called Jörg if he wanted to join the new group. Jörg was very happy with the idea playing with his old friends. But the new sound of the group was very different from the Flexable times. It was more complex, less melodic. Jörg and Uwe didn't harmonize in a musical way. After nearly a year playing together, Jörg decided to leave the group. From 1996 to 2001 Jörg joined "Cheap Turtle" in 1996 and "Versus X" in 1999. Carsten, Thomas and Uwe got to know Mike Guterra a great bass player who played by "Versus X" before. The four called their band "Transhumant" which plays a complex and interresting kind of progressive music. In 2001 because of many people, who asked for the recordings of the old band of  "Versus X" bass player Jörg Fischer, in 2001 the studio recordings of 1994 were released on a limited CD called "Re-Flexable" limited to only 10 pieces. So in 2002 Flexable decided to produce a regular CD-DA (Audio-CD) and asked Musea, Versus X's record label, for distribution. Another surprise for all prog friends around the world, the band is comprised of three members, they created some incredibly Progressie Rock with blends of Jazz, the guitar and keyboard works provides the pure progressive feeling, sometimes entering the realms of Jazz Rock, the band has all the necessary ingredients to explore diferents styles mixing some references from bands as: "Triumvirat", "Emerson Lake & Palmer" and "Rush". "Re-Flexable" was recorded around 1994 to 2002, vocals (sung by Jörg Fischer) were added to "The Mask" in 2002,  contain five tracks and can be ordered directly by the band or at Musea Records. My special and particular attention to all songs: "Introduction", "Staccato", "The Mask", "The Escape" and "Fortune"  all should be at the top of every Progresive Rock fans. Today Flexable are: Jörg Fischer - Vocals, Guitars, Bass, Thomas Keller - Keyboards, Organ, Bass Pedals and Carsten Schönhut - Drums and Percussion, additional musician Bernd Pfeffer - CP70 on track five. Excellent and indispensable work, highly recommendable...

. QWESTION - "Y"
The journey of Qwestion started in United States of America with Mike Griffith, Vincent Hall and John Hall. What a journey it´s been! One day in Hattiesburg, MS, in some old office buildings converted to practice roons, Mike and Vincent, were jamming away thy decided it was time for a break. It will be a break that will forever remember, for because of it they were introduced to a guitar player named John Hall. John had just moved to Hattiesburg and had been playing with a band a few "Offices". As usual, life had some bumps in the road for the newly formed Hall and Griffith Projct. After just a short year, and many killer songs later, the trio had the rug yanked out from under their magic carpet ride. Mike and Vincent, while remaining friends, went down separate musical parts. After several years, Mike got a phone call from John. The whole conversation wasn´t all about music, but they would be planting the seed that would eventually grow into a reunion. But they were musicians, that seed would not be realized for a couple more years. That seed was not to be deprived of life, and in the summer of 1999, Mike was finally able to make the move to Muskegon, MI, and harvest the fruits of their reunion. It didn´t take long for the old friends to start right where the left off. They eagerly began recording the material which would eventually become their debut album. On july 17th, 2002, their musical journey had come to fruition in the form of Qwestion and the release of their album named "Y". Who are Qwestion? or What do you think about a Prog band with two musicians playing Guitar and Bass? What about the musical style? All the questions are simple of answering, just listen Qwestion and certainly you will be hearing some thing like a mix of Experimental and Jazz Progressive Rock Tech-Metal. Every sounds are completely different of the normal patterns and moods. Better comparing a soft remaining influences of "Frank Zappa" or something similar with the experimental bands of years 70 as "Can", "Gong" and "Guru Guru", but with modern arrangements or more inventive metal sounds between bass and guitar. "Y" is the debut album of this American band, with eight tracks, almost an hour of pure jam session with guitars bass and drums. Produced, engineered, edited, mixed, mastered and album artwork design by Mike Griffith. My special and particular attention to the songs: "The Mask", "Chaos Theory", "Forest Of The Norm" and "YacHacHa". Group members are: Mike Griffith - Bass, John Hall - Guitar and Drums - TBD, Guest Musician - Jimmy Rad - Turntable. Excellent work, highly recommendable...

. NEXUS - "Live at Nearfest 2000"
Nexus was born during the glorious 70's, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, as a secret dream of a group of young schoolsboys. Like many others reviews around the world about Nexus releases, I think is not necessary write beautiful words about this release. But as I wrote a long time ago about the first release called "Detrás Del Umbral", where the band use elements of "Emerson Lake and Palmer", "Pink Floyd", "Ayreon" and "Yes" in all songs, all wonderful vocals are in Spanish from the beautiful singer Mariela Gonzalez all keyboards and the guitars sounds add some majestic atmosphere into the music. Nexus recorded two works "Detrás Del Umbral" (1999) and "Metanoia" (2001) considering all them the most impressive South America Progressive Rock albuns in ages. Nexus had their triumphant USA/Mexico tour, where they performed in two of the most important progressive festivals in the world, Nearfest 2000 (NortEast Art Rock Festival) and MexProg 2000, beside the bands like "Anekdoten",  "Transatlantic", "Happy the Man", "Le Orme", "Balletto di Bronzo" and others. About "Nexus - Live at Nearfest 2000"  important to say that is a brilliantly document, where all the songs was recorded during at Nearfest 2000, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA in June 18th, 2000. Basically Nexus played songs from their first concept album “Detras Del Umbral” where you can listen a instrumental music all time, but in some parts Mariela Gonzalez literally commands the stage with her beautiful vocals and with a charismatic presence. Produced and Published by Prog Media Records in association with the international Nexus Fan Club. Tour mannager Alberto Vanasco. Distributed around the world by Record Runner. The CD contain ten tracks with Total time around 68 min. The tracks are: "The Awekening", "Beyond The Limit", "Condemned", "The Spiral", "Endless Dream", "Keyboards Solo", "Metanoia", "Symbols In The Sky", "The Last Ritual/Final Condemned", and "Age Of Unreason". Nexus are today: Lalo Huber - Keyboards, Carlos Lucena - Guitars, Daniel Ianniruberto - Bass and Keyboards, Luis Nakamura - Drums and Mariela Gonzalez - Vocals. Excellent and indispensable work, highly recommendable...

. VINCE LUPONE - "Out of Shadows"
Musical experience of Vince Lupone: Playing music since He was 6.  2002 marks his 10th year playing guitar.  He have been in several bands since the age of 14.  4 years of Choir director experience, and studied 2 years of music theory in college. In 1996, Vince Lupone created to the present a band called "Cast of Shadows",  with the support of the excellent musicians he's had the privilege of collaborating with. The first incarnation of Cast of Shadows came to a mutual end in the summer of 2001, with the members deciding to move in different directions. As of right now, Vince Lupone is recording his first solo album, tentatively titled "Out of Shadows." Ther Band is in the vein of heavy metal with exotic and progressive tendencies.  It is not unusual to hear a "Cast of Shadows" song that encompasses many styles and genres of music in a concise environment. The main inspirations for "Cast of Shadows" are the progressive bands of the 90's and the huge new metal sound brought to the forefront in the 21st century. Vince Lupone a young musician comes from a Progressive Metal and Heavy Metal background and his influences are in part described as a mix from a lot of bands and musicians. The guitars works are full of inspiration with great bass, fast drumming, and hard vocals show how to play progressive metal at its best. The songs are a full blown of "Metallica", "Megadeth", "Deep Purple", "Iron Maiden", "Paradise Lost", with various melodic variants on a heavy metal themes. "Out of Shadows" album will be better left for the progressive metal lovers, I recommend to the fans of "Dream Theater", "Joe Satriani", "Deep Purple", "Iron Maiden", "Paradise Lost", "Rush", and "Steve Vai". At the moment "Out of Shadows" has four finished songs: "Welcome to My World", "Song for Joe", "At Peace" and "Greater Day", also you can listen MP3s of the "Cast of Shadows" CD at MP3.com. The album is expected to be 8-12 songs, 50-60 minutes long, and the CD release is expected in late 2002.  Vince Lupone use: Ibanez 6 and 7 string custom guitars, Rocktron and TC Electronics rack gear, Mesa/Boogie amps and cabs.
