MOETAR
"From
These Small Seeds"
Half
the fun of listening to MoeTar is hearing how well all of these seemingly
incompatible musical pieces fit together. Amid sonic references to Zappa,
The Beatles, XTC, Gentle Giant, Stevie Wonder, Laurie Anderson and many
others, MoeTar offers a fresh approach to rock, pop, electronica and experimental
music. Simply put, From These Small Seeds is the culmination of a collision
of styles that seems to defy the odds ? and our ears. It's true what they
say: opposites do attract. Just ask lead vocalist Moorea Dickason and bassist/songwriter/lyricist
Tarik Ragab for the Bay Area-based modern progressive rock band, MoeTar.
MoeTar's Magna Carta Records debut, From These Small Seeds, is a collection
of seemingly disparate and opposing sonic forces, which makes a profound
and coherent artistic statement. On paper the music shouldn't work at all.
The band flies in the face of logic, yet not a musical note seems out of
place. Flaunting their musical fluency, MoeTar doesn't avoid challenges:
they appear to actively court and thrive on them. Indeed. Inherent contradictions
are the subject of many of the band's songs. |
AETHELLIS
"Northumbria"
Aethellis
has the soaring majesty of classic symphonic rock and incorporates a contemporary
rhythmic feel along with asymmetrical meters and polytriad harmonies. And
the occasionally catchy hook! The first Aethellis album was spearheaded
and recorded in 2002/2003 by classically trained keyboardist / vocalist
/ hack guitarist / narcissist Ellsworth Hall and has many influences including
rock, classical, synth pop, funk, jazz and even hip-hop. This either represents
wide tastes or an inability to focus. |
STEVEGANE
PROJECT
"When
The Time Is A Present"
After
considerable experiences collaborating with other musicians and artistes,
Stevegane, a French guitarist and composer, felt it was time to realise
his own project, and so it was that in 2008 the Stevegane Project was born.
Imbued with a love of British rock, he has asserted his own style of playing
and composing, enriched by the influence of such groups as Pink Floyd,
Yes, Rush, and Rainbow and great artistes such as Jeff Beck, David Gilmour,
Alex Lifeson and in particular Ritchie Blackmore, for who he has great
admiration and deep respect. Stevegane's experiences have culminated in
the creation of a very personal style of music reflecting the richness
of all these influences. |
AH
POOK THE DESTROYER
"The
Silver Key"
Ah
Pook The Destroyer is the collaboration between Matthew Broyles of The
Matthew Show and Paul Shapera of Mocha Lab. Their first album The Silver
Key focuses on an H.P. Lovecraft short story out of step with his other
horror oriented work. Matthew: " When people think of H.P.Lovecraft, the
first mental impression tends to arise from the dark depths of the Cthulhu
mythos. But Lovecraft was also a philosopher, a true iconoclast untempered
by the literary zeitgeist of his age. One of the clearest expressions of
this aspect is the short story The Silver Key. Ostensibly belonging to
his dream-tale canon, upon further examination this is actually in many
ways a manifesto, an accounting of one man's attempt to understand the
society into which he was born, and the judgment that it is found lacking." |
OCEANS
OF NIGHT
"Domain"
As
the enigmatic and mysterious name suggests, Oceans of Night is a modern
rock band - equal parts progressive rock and modern heavy metal, wrapped
around powerful vocal melodies and evocative guitar work served with a
distinct ambient flavor. Conjuring epic and dynamic music with an cinematic
twist, each Oceans of Night release is a dramatic musical experience that
demands your undivided attention. With 2 CD's currently in circulation
(and 4 more under the Scott Mosher banner) Oceans of Night are forging
a brave new path in the world of progressive metal music. |

experienced musicians and just music lovers.Their creations are full of
surprises and changes of mood, sounds, complex rhythmical characters, rhythmic
illusions, jazz - fusion chord progressions, mean and evil guitar riffs
and in all this one can a so find heroic film music melodies that you can
sing along to.X-Panda tries to expand their musical horizon and knowledge
by creating technically and musically more entertaining music for themselves
in the first place. The band was founded as a one time project for an original
song competition in april 2009. They ended up winning the competition with
a song "Dickybirds". |

KOTEBEL
"Concerto
for Piano and Electric Ensemble"

Gentle Giant, King Crimson or Chopin. This album features Adriana Plaza
