ANUBIS
SPIRE
"Between
The Two Eternities"
Anubis
Spire was formed in 1998 and in the decade since has released three critically
acclaimed albums: Old Lions (in the world of snarling sheep), Back To Abydos
and Children Of A Foreign Faith. All are available at CDBaby.com and hundreds
of other online and retail stores, as well as digitally in every major
digital music service in existence. Featuring a cast of special guests
that includes Saqqara Record's Neil Henderson, Mike Ward of Temporary Power,
Marlon Kempmann of Doctor Memory, the ever-shadowy and elusive JP Macgregor
among others, Anubis Spire have fashioned an album that will need more
than a few listens to sink in but once it does, if you're like me, you'll
have a hard time getting it out of your head. |
FREQUENCY
DRIFT
"Last"
Formed
in Bayreuth, Germany by classically trained keyboard player and multi-
instrumentalist Andreas Hack, the band released their debut, Personal Effects
Pt. 1, in 2008 via Musea. The conceptual work about the tragic story of
two sisters in a futuristic setting was inspired by films like Bladerunner
and Ghost in a Shell. The follow-up album, Personal Effects Pt. 2 was released
by Cyclops in 2009 and once more showcased Frequency Drift?s talent for
powerful, soulful melodies and atmosphere. 19 February 2016 will see the
release of their 6th album Last. Stranger and darker than its predecessors,
yet still highly melodic, with stunning artwork and mournful lyrics, it
is Frequency Drift's most cohesive and cinematic work so far.

TRETTIOÅRIGA
KRIGET
"Seaside
Air"
Trettioåriga
Kriget (Thirty Years War) was formed in 1970 in Saltsjöbaden, a seaside
resort southeast of Stockholm. They were at the time all around seventeen
and still in high school. The schools mainhall was in the beginning used
as the rehearsalroom. This first lineup of the band was a sixpiece with
two drummers! It included Stefan Fredin- bass guitar, vocals, Pocke Öhrström
- guitar, vocals, Dag Lundquist - drums, Olle Thörnvall - harmonica,
guitar, Dag Kronlund - piano and Johan Gullberg- drums. In 1971 Pocke,
Johan and Dag K. left and Robert joined on vocals and guitar. In 1972 Olle
quit playing harmonica to concentrate on the lyrics, leaving the band to
concist only of Stefan, Dag and Robert. They decided they needed a good
guitarplayer
and started to audition some guitarists. Through these auditions they found
Christer who joined the band in summer 1972. The band rehearsed intensively
for a year and a half and developed a style of their own quite unlike the
main trend in Swedish rock during the Seventies... 2013 started with a
show in Tokyo, Japan in January. It will be followed by an appearance at
the Melloboat cruise Stockholm-Riga together with among others Opeth, Änglagård,
Devin Townsend.

AMON
RA
"We
Never Said Good-Bye"
After
17 years Amon Ra is Back. Lo and behold, 17 years ago Amon Ra released
their debut album "Precarious Balance", receiving a warm welcome from rock
magazines around the globe. The album eventually went on to become a highly
praised insider tip in prog circles, pulling in fans of Rush or Dream Theater
as well as fans of the early Elton John. In the wake of its release, the
band joined the German leg of Saga's world tour alongside being booked
for shows as guests for main acts like Jethro Tull. In spite of being co-produced
by a member of a famous progressive rock band, the follow-up album went
down in the flames of a business fiasco. A fate the band shares with so
many others, leading to the discontinuation of all live and studio activities.
"We Never Said Good-bye" is an ironic take on the band's history, and a
tour de force comprising of 12 songs from the German American band.

INVERNALIA
"s/t"
Invernalia
is a new project from Buenos Aires, from the creative mind of Aldo Pinelli,
also leader of the Argentinian band Habitat and author of three solo albums.
Now Invernalia come with more instrumental parts, with different atmospheres
that can invoke the first Genesis, Yes and Le Orme of guitar period. The
album is full of sweet melodies, sometimes melancholic, sometimes epic,
from seventies style to neo-prog, from baroque textures and rhytmic parts
to evocative ambient sounds. Invernalia are Aldo Pinelli (guitar, bass,
keyboards, voice), Mario Pugliese (drums), Paula Dolcera (flute), Sebastian
Calise (violin), Eli Minervini (piano), Roberto Sambrizzi (percussions,
drums on La Batalla de los cinco ejercitos", inspired by "The Hobbit" by
J.R.R. Tolkien). A new magical moment for south-american progressive rock". |
LUCIFER'S
FRIEND
Live
@ Sweden Rock 2015
Rock
legends Lucifer?s Friend reformed in 2015, some 20 years after they were
last together. Live @ Sweden Rock 2015 captures the band's performance
on the 4 Sound Stage on Friday 5th June 2015 as the Headline act. The set
list includes the band's greatest hits from the 1970s plus songs from the
recently released "Awakening" title. Lucifer's Friend formed in 1970 with
their influential and groundbreaking self-titled album, famous album among
connoisseurs of 70's hard rock. Its heavy and majestic overtones made it
a pioneer release of progressive rock genre. The group went on to release
six albums in that decade. In 1976 Lucifer's Friend suffered a hard blow
when British vocalist John Lawton jumped ship for none other than Uriah
Heep. The band broke up in 1982 and briefly reformed in 1994 for their
ninth album "Sumo Grip". Now they're back, after 20 years, literally by
the fans' request? "This being only the second live concert since our reformation,
we were all of course a bit nervous". However the crowd made us more than
welcome and after the first few notes, the adrenalin kicked in and we were
up and running. |
ALMS
"An
Irosmic Tragedy"
"An
Irosmic Tragedy", Alms' second album, is an epic Rock symphony about Life
divided in three long suites, corresponding to each one of its phases:
childhood, adulthood and elderhood. Complex and eclectic, Alms mixes different
styles in his music, from Classical to Heavy Metal, as is often the case
in Progressive Rock. Thick instrumentation, evoking sounds, enveloping
atmospheres, powerful melodies and poetic lyrics make the listening of
this album a really enjoyable journey through Life. |
MARTIGAN
"Distant
Monsters"
Martigan
was founded in March 1994 by the keyboarder Oliver Rebhan. He used his
contacts in the local music-scene to unite different musicians in a new
band. Rather than aiming at any commercial success the members of the band
chose to write and perform music that meets their personal preferences.
The work of 2 weeks composing together with Kai Marckwordt, Juergen Edlinger,
Axel Schuetze and Alex Bisch can definitely be named as "Progressive Rock".
The first track "Painter" was born. In the end of 1994 they recorded their
first demo CD using two DAT recorders. This recording, produced during
only two weekends, served as master-tape for Martigan's first album Stolzenbach.

album cover displays the "Worm" as a younger man in his early 30s and starting
out in his despicable exploits trying to work his way to the top. In this
image, he leaves his destructive habitat in search of new places to devastate,
but inevitably enters into unchartered territories only to run into trouble
as he comes face to face with the Rhino, which in this case represents
purity. The Rhino is both tangible and ethereal and could represent a number
of spiritual forces to a large number of people due to his majesty and
ancient wisdom. Due to the relative inexperience of the Worm, he has no
option but to turn away to escape and maybe try again in future. Rhinos
are very peaceful when at ease but yet very aggressive and powerful when
provoked. The Worm must learn to tame the beast before he can even attempt
to overrun it. |
EXPLOSIONS
IN THE SKY
"The
Wilderness"
In
February 1999, three longtime friends from West Texas went to a pizza place
in Austin, Texas, for a prearranged meeting with a young man from Illinois.
The Illinoisan had just moved to Austin, and he had put up a flyer that
caught the interest of the others. They ate pizza and discussed movies
and arcana. They also decided to meet the next day with their various instruments
(two
guitars, bass, and drums). This happened, and over the coming months they
picked a band name, then picked a better band name, then wrote and recorded
an album. That album, called How Strange, Innocence, was largely out of
tune, but the band members didn't really notice at the time. They optimistically
printed 300 copies, and gave most of them away. It turned out they really
liked playing together, so they kept doing so. A friend of theirs sent
a recording of one of their live shows to a record label in Baltimore,
and that label offered to put out albums for the band. The band agreed.

YUKA
& CHRONOSHIP
"The
3rd Planetary Chronicles"
Yuka
& Chronoship is a Japanese progressive rock band formed in 2009 by
keyboardist/ vocalist/ composer Yuka Funakoshi one of the few prog-rock
artists in the world along with Japan's three leading studio musicians:
bassist Shun Taguchi, guitarist Takashi Miyazawa, and drummer Ikko Tanaka.
Highly reminiscent of late 70s progressive rock, the sound of Yuka &
Chronoship is reputed for its philosophical depth, lyrical brilliance,
and technical virtuosity. Don't miss the chance to explore the musical
microcosm of Yuka & Chronoship! |
SILVER
HUNTER
"Chapter
1: Mad Moonlighters"
After
appearing in the ProgYes Festival in 2012, Singer/Songwriter Tim Hunter
and Silver Lining's vocalist Thierry Sportouche decided to start an Anglo/French
music project called Silver Hunter, to focus on 1970s "prog" influenced
pop and rock. The intention is to blend two styles: melodic accessible
music with progressive, theatrical rock. April 2015: Silver Hunter's first
mini-album is out! It was recorded at the Smokehouse Studios, Wapping,
London, Tim's Northern Soundscapes studios in Yorkshire and Thierry's Florrow
studio in Lyon. Thierry Sportouche, haunted by the esoteric progressive
meanderings, invented premonitory dreams, daring musical experiences in
the heart of fantasy. Sportouche is the master of his future. |
BILLY
SHERWOOD
"Citizen"
Sherwood
comes from a musical family which includes his father Bobby, who was a
big band leader, his mother Phyllis, a singer and drummer, and brother
Michael, a keyboardist and singer. His godfather is the late Milton Berle.
Billy Sherwood's music career started when he joined a band formed by Michael.
Called Lodgic, Billy played bass and sung while Michael played keyboards
and sang back up. Lodgic also included Guy Allison on keyboards, Jimmy
Haun on guitar and Gary Starns on drums. They eventually moved the band
to Los Angeles in 1980. After many years of trying to get things together,
they recorded their debut album Nomadic Sands, released in 1985. Lodgic
eventually broke up, and Billy Sherwood put together a new band with Guy
Allison. They recruited guitarist Bruce Gowdy and drummer Mark T. Williams
to form World Trade. They recorded their self-titled debut in 1989, with
Sherwood taking on the roles of engineer, mixer, and producer again, along
with his band duties as bassist and lead singer. |
URIAH
HEEP
"Totally
Driven"
Legendary
band Uriah Heep is pleased to announce the forthcoming re-release of a
previously released obscure re-records anthology, now known as Totally
Driven. Totally Driven is housed in a 6 panel digi-pack with new custom
artwork and features 27 re-records made in 2001. This release is the first
on the band's own Uriah Heep Records and will be supported by a full worldwide
marketing campaign. Of the release, Mick Box said The 'Totally Driven'
recordings were made while we were in preparation for the "Acoustically
Driven" and "Electrically Driven" concerts. Previously these 2001 recordings
were released under the confusing name "Remasters", but that title went
out of print very quickly. This re-release has had the band's full
input, including in its re-branding as "Totally Driven" and will be the
very first release on their own Uriah Heep Records. |
LE
FOLLI ARIE
"Le
Folli Arie"
Le
Folli Arie become a reality in 2012. The band is made of four musicians
living in Milan that have a huge live experience. They all have worked
in various musical projects and share a common love for music from the
70's . They have also been influenced by grunge, pop, latin, funk, jazz,
heavy metal. The clash and melt of all these musical influences gave birth
to Le Folli Arie's unique style... |
ARLON
"Mimetic
Desires"
The
music played by the band can be defined as progressive rock in a broad
sense. Having been introduced in several songs ("Lies", "On the Edge"),
the saxophone is a sui generis binder and creates a completely different
atmosphere, not changing their character at the same time. A warm voice
of the lead singer complements the whole, and combined with the rough,
progressive sounds gives an interesting final effect. Arlon's lyrics are
a simple diagnosis of reality. They are about the dreams and helplessness
of a man fighting an everlasting battle for happiness. They condemn stupidity,
ask many questions and invite to looking for answers to them. "We do not
attempt to change the world, we'd rather change ourselves", the band members
say. |
MAGMA
"Köhnzert
Zünd Box Set - 12-CD Live Set"
You
have to see Magma live at least once in your life! For Magma, live performance
is essential. Live performance allows "and forgives" no mistakes. You give
your all, all at once. You are on a tightrope, with no safety net. It is
too late for thought. The body, the hands and the instinct speak first;
the fruit of reflection. This planned spontaneity, these raw sounds, this
savage energy at concerts make live performance a wonderful experience.
Magma has joined up with Jazz Village to celebrate its 45th anniversary
with an impressive series of new and classic releases. A series of new
and classic Magma titles has been scheduled for release every month from
September 2014 to November 2015. A legendary French group if ever there
was one, Magma has continued to influence the course of contemporary music
since their debut in 1969. Combining the energy of rock and the ecstasy
of jazz, as well as numerous classical influences from Béla Bartók
to Carl Orff to the Viennese school, brick by brick Magma has built a unique
musical monument that is destined to be a worldwide beacon, as long recognized
by their large and devoted following. |
THE
PYRAMIDIS PROJECT
"Emotional
Distances"
The
Pyramidis Project sets new music standards. The mastermind behind The Pyramidis
Project is Mario Buchinger (f.k.a. Mario Kuduz), who has been actively
dealing with music as musician and producer for more than 20 years. Even
though radio DJs all over the world have categorised the sound by The Pyramidis
Project as Progressive Rock, the newly created genre is named "Soundscaping"
as the songs of The Pyramidis Project do not fit into existing patterns
of music genres. It combines synthetic sounds layers with other musical
elements like guitars, vocals, wind instruments and others and it includes
also many influences from other genres such as Rock, Lounge or Jazz. The
result is something which can be expressed as "Soundscapes" originating
from the word "Landscapes". |
EDUARDO
AGUILLAR
"A
Grande Galeria"
Eduardo
Aguillar - Musician since childhood and registered in the Order of the
Musicians of Brazil as a classical musician in the early 80s, he studied

new cover; and a second, as yet untitled, with newer songs. Eduardo Aguillar

Come the year 2012 and Eduardo Aguillar mounts a new studio (named Laboratório
Pedra Branca). Rescued his old songs, composed new works, started producing
soundtracks and production of his new album with songs also written, arranged,
produced and performed by him, now with some more than special guests,
as the violinist Kleber Vogel ("Kaizen" and "Quaterna Requiem") in "O Retorno"
("The Return"), Allan Cavalcanti on percussion in "Dança Dos Cavaleiros"
("Dance Of The Knights") and "Eclipse" - "Luz e Sombra" ("Light And Shadow")
and his cousin Fabio Aguillar on lead guitar in "Orcus". |
GIZMO
"Marlowe's
Children - part 1 The Innocence"
It
was 1975 and prog-rock was all the rage. David Radford, a young singer-songwriter
from Canterbury had just secured a recording contract with President Records.
The label, run by father and son team Ed* and David Kassner, were impressed
by Radford's writing talent after hearing a demo-tape recorded at the original
Oakwood Studios in 1974. President wanted a single released as quickly
as possible and invited Radford's band Gizmo up to Regent Sound Studio
in London's Tin Pan Alley (Denmark Street) to record seven of his songs.
The band that recorded that first single and other unreleased tracks comprised:
David Radford - 12 string guitar and vocals, Graeme Quinton-Jones - Keyboards
and guitar, Mick Curd - Guitar, David Jones - Keyboards, Martin Judd -
Bass guitar and David Smith - Drums. It is amazing how both Dave and Martin
were able to write and record the songs for this album, when they both
had such life threatening conditions. |
TIME
HORIZON
"Living
Water"
The
long awaited debut release from the Band Time Horizon. The Music of Time
Horizon is built around catchy melodies and supported by driving guitars,
thick symphonic keyboards and rich vocal harmonies. A diverse influence
of bands can be heard on the album from the Progressive Rock genre like
Kansas, Styx, Pink Floyd and Yes as well as more main stream rock as Toto
and Journey. It is been described as "accesible" Progressive rock for the
average listener. Each song has a distinct flavor of musical styles yet
the album still maintains an identifiable sound. |
ARCADE
MESSIAH
"Arcade
Messiah II"
John
Bassett (the singer, songwriter and producer of UK Progressive Rock Band
KingBathmat) has announced the forthcoming release of Ar5cade Messiah II.
Arcade Messiah II builds upon the elements of the first release with the
genre blending of Metal, Stoner, Doom, Prog, Math rock, and ambient post
rock continuing into an ever increasing dynamic storm of controlled chaos.
John Bassett: "after the surprise success of last year's original Arcade
Messiah album and after receiving feedback from fans of that album I decided
to make a sequel, a continuation of that album, that is hopefully bigger,
better, more refined and more dramatic, but which didn't lose the vibe
and atmosphere that was created on the original Album". |
LANDSKAP
"II"
London
based heavy rock project mainly influenced by late 60's and early 70's
psychedelic rock featuring George Pan (Father Sun, Dead Man's Band), Frederic
Caure (SerpentCult, Thee Plague Of Gentlemen), Paul Westwood (Fen, Skaldic
Curse), Kostas Panagiotou (Pantheist) and Jake Harding (Dead Existence,
The Death Letter). Landskap is West Flemish for landscape, which is where
Frederic Caure originates from. |
VIII
STRADA
"Babylon"
In
December 2008 "The Legend of the big door" signed a remarkable debut on
the international progressive-rock world revealing themselves as one of
the most interesting and original newcomer. A long tour often together
with the great Patrizio Fariselli (Area) has followed. Now they return
with a new album, "Babylon", a concept where all the songs, despite having
their own autonomy, are inter-connected. Even the instrumental songs, as
ouverture, preludes and fughe, have their own meaning through the story
itself. This is an album full of different "paths" of shifting colors,
with constant changes of cadence and mood, in an ideal travel among struggling
melodies, startling rhythmic bridges and a reckless sound. |
